Pedestrian hit by bus dies

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police confirmed on Thursday the death of the 75-year-old woman who had been struck by an Addison County Transit Resources (ACTR) bus at the intersection of Merchants Row and Main Street back on Aug.10.
Ann Curtis Odom, a Washington, D.C., resident, died “during the early morning hours of Aug. 25, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Hospital, as a result of the injuries she sustained in this motor vehicle accident,” read the police press release.
Odom’s death was announced less than 24 hours after Fletcher Allen officials reported her status as “serious” during the late morning of Wednesday, Aug. 24. Her status had been disclosed as “critical” during the days immediately following the accident.
Middlebury police said last week they were wrapping up their investigation of the incident, during which Odom sustained severe traumatic injuries. Police will submit their report to Addison County State’s Attorney David Fenster, who will determine whether the incident warrants prosecution.
Michael Rizner, 54, of Middlebury, was driving the ACTR bus at the time of the accident. ACTR placed him on paid administrative leave pending completion of the police investigation.
