ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police reported that several vehicles recently have been broken into during daylight hours at popular hiking, swimming and other recreation locations in the county, resulting in damage to vehicles and items being stolen. Troopers urged people to lock their vehicles with their windows up, and leave all valuables at home when planning to be at these locations for any period of time.
On Aug. 5 at about a quarter to 7 p.m. Trooper Szarejko was dispatched to the Snake Mountain trail parking lot in Addison where a car was broken into and numerous items were reported stolen, including a purse with approximately $200 in cash along with several credit cards and a cooler with red and white stickers on it.
A Vergennes resident reported that a green LL Bean backpack and a duffel bag were stolen from his car while it was parked at the Red Gate fishing access on Fort Cassin Road in Ferrisburgh on Aug. 13 between 12:30 and 5 p.m.
Sgt. Hogan is investigating a theft from the Snake Mountain trail parking lot in Addison that occurred on Aug. 14 between 11:30 a.m. and 2:50 p.m. A Shelburne woman reported that a screen print fabric purse — dark blue with pineapples on it — and a yellow Northface daypack were stolen.
In addition, Sgt. Hogan is investigating a theft of a purse from a car at the Bristol Waterworks located on Plank Road in New Haven. The theft occurred on Aug. 14 between 10:30 a.m. and 1:10 p.m.
Trooper Hatch said he is investigating thefts from vehicles parked at Bartlett Falls in Bristol and the Snake Mountain trail parking lot between 2 and 5 p.m. on Aug. 17.

In other recent activity, VSP operating out of the New Haven barracks:
•  On Aug. 10 just after midnight responded to a reported underage drinking party in the Birch Ledge Road neighborhood of Bristol. Troopers cited Timothy A. Morse, 19, of Starksboro for alcohol consumption by a minor.
•  On Aug. 13 around 12:30 a.m. cited Michael J. Strong Jr., 20, of Ferrisburgh for possession of marijuana and prescribed pills that did not belong to him. Police had stopped his car for defective equipment on Route 7 in Salisbury.
•  On Aug. 16 cited Daniel Sweeney, 27, of Bristol for driving with a suspended license after stopping his car on Route 116 in Starksboro at around 5 p.m.
•  On Aug. 18 at around 10:45 a.m. responded to a two-car accident at Daniel’s Four Corners — the intersection of Routes 17 and 116 in Bristol. The trooper issued a ticket for failing to yield to Clarisse Shechter, 61, of Bristol, whom the trooper said entered the intersection driving a blue Toyota Matrix and struck the passenger side of a black Kia Optima driven by 81-year-old Patricia Widli of Pittsford. Both  cars sustained moderate damage, no one was injured.
•  On Aug. 19 at 11:16 a.m. were called to a two-car crash on Route 7 north of Dakin Farm in Ferrisburgh. The trooper said Stanley Hotte, 62, of Vergennes was southbound in a red Ford truck when he crossed the center line and crashed into a silver Chevy Equinox driven by Joseph Provetto, 86, of Ferrisburgh. Provetto sustained a minor cut. Rescue squads from Charlotte and Bristol responded, as did the Ferrisburgh Fire Department. Alcohol and speed were not considered factors in this collision. Police said they’d mail a civil traffic ticket to Hotte for driving to right of the centerline, which carries a penalty of up to two points and a $214 fine if convicted.
•  On Aug. 19 at 4:40 p.m. responded to Town Line Road at Jersey Street in Addison for a two-car crash. The trooper reported that a 2009 Nissan Sentra driven by Lucille Gilmore of Tinmouth pulled out in front of a 1998 Subaru Legacy driven by Gavin Bicknell of West Addison, causing the Subaru to leave the roadway and come to a stop on a fence post. No one was hurt, both drivers were wearing seat belts.
•  On July 20 at almost 6 p.m. stopped a vehicle on North Street in Bristol for defective equipment and ended up citing the driver, Robert L Robidoux, 27, of Bristol, for driving with a criminally suspended license.
•  On July 20 at 6:30 p.m. stopped a car driven by Chantal Richards, 38, of Starksboro on Huntington Road in Richmond for an equipment violation and cited Richards for driving with a criminally suspended license. The trooper said that according to Department of Motor Vehicles records Richards’ license had been under suspension since 1994.
