WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Vergennes Champ and Middlebury Panther swimmers combined to claim three titles at the Vermont Swim Association meet held this past Saturday and Sunday at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction.
The Vergennes quartet of 8-year-olds Anna Rakowski, Amanda Cook, Grace LeBeau and Jordan Jewell won the 8-and-under girls’ medley relay, while Panther 12-year-old Kess Moulton won the 12-and-under girls’ 50-yard freestyle, and Panther Gracie Weinberg, also 12, won the 12-and-under girls’ 50-yard backstroke.
Overall, both Vergennes and Middlebury competed in the seven-team Division III, won by Brattleboro with 948.5 points. Vergennes (868) took third in the division, and Middlebury (744.50) finished fifth.
Overall, the Champs were 10th in the 22-team field, and the Panthers finished 12th. The local teams’ Champlain Valley Swim League rivals Burlington Tennis Club (2,579.5) and Burlington Country Club (1,997) respectively finished first and second overall and in Division I, repeating the order of their CVSL meet finish of the week before.
Placing for the Champs in at least three events were, LeBeau; Rakowski; Moriah Cushing and Alyse Beauchemin, both 12; Shea McLaren, 7; Zeke Palmer and Casey Kimball, both 10; Jeffrey Stearns 9; Sam Comai, 11; Max Bicknell, 12; and Becky Johnston, 17. Vergennes also used its depth to score well in the relays.
Moulton added three other top-six finishes to spark Middlebury, and Weinberg scored a second and two more top-eight results. Max Moulton, 15, scored a second, a third and two fifths. Other Panthers scoring points in at least three races were Devon Kearns, 9; Courtney White, 13; Brianna Foley, 15; Mychaella Devaney, 16; Sarah Snider, 18; Fraser Milligan, 8; Parker Beatty, 10; Archie Milligan, 11; and Sam Ferguson, 15.
