Brief Thursday power outage affects 2,400 in Middlebury
August 7, 2011
MIDDLEBURY — Many Middlebury residents and businesses went without power for about three minutes on Thursday around 12:30 p.m.
The cause of the outage was breaker near a Middlebury power station that opened for an unknown reason, said Champlain Valley Public Service spokeswoman Christine Rivers on Thursday. The breaker, essentially a large power switch on Seymour Street Extension next to the company’s hydro station, opened and knocked out power for about 2,400 residents.
“The cause of the breaker opening at the substation is undetermined at this time,” Rivers said. “We’re still investigating, but do not anticipate any additional outages.”
