Middlebury swimmers split pair of competitions
MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Aquatic Club had two swim meets last week, hosting Edge Swim Club on Tuesday and visiting Essex on Thursday. The Panthers won in their home meet when Edge forfeited due to not bringing the required officials, and lost to Essex 384-114.
The Panthers won 20 races against Edge, with the under-10 boys winning all four individual events and both relay races, free and medley. The Panthers won five backstroke and breaststroke events, taking two butterfly races and three freestyle races. They won five relay races overall.
Parker Beatty swam especially well for the under-10 boys, winning all five of the events he entered, including three individual events and two relays. He took first in butterfly, backstroke and freestyle.
Max Moulton also won three individual races in the under-18 events, taking backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle.
Sarah Snider won two individual races, butterfly and backstroke, and was part of the winning under-18 free relay team.
Chandler Devaney won two under-14 individual races, taking first in backstroke and freestyle.
Other winners were: Oliver Poduschnick (boys u-8 backstroke), Annie Bolton (girls u-10 breaststroke), Devon Kearns (boys u-10 breaststroke), Kess Moulton (girls u-12 breaststroke), and Reubie Bolton (girls u-14 breaststroke).
The relay team of Beatty, Poduschnick, Fraser Milligan and Thomas Denton won the boys under-10 medley relay, while Beatty and Milligan swam to first in the under-10 free relay with Kearns and Spencer Doran.
The team of Fyn Fernandez, Burke Weekes, Jacob Brookman and Archie Milligan won both the free and medley under-12 relays.
Snider, Courtney White, Brianna Foley and Mychaella Devaney won the under-18 girls free relay.

On Thursday, the Panthers visited the Town of Essex swim team and lost 384-114. They took first place in nine races, all individual events. They found their best success at the girls under-12 events, taking first place in all four individual events.
Three of those under-12 victories belonged to Kess Moulton, who won first place in butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle.
Max Moulton added two first-place finishes, winning the boys under-18 butterfly and freestyle events.
Other individual race winners were Lucy Ursitti (girls u-12 backstroke), Charlie Hodson (boys u-8 breaststroke), Burke Weekes (boys u-12 breaststroke), and Parker Beatty (boys u-10 freestyle).
Middlebury swims in three more meets this week, hosting Knights Swim Team on Tuesday and traveling to Burlington Country Club on Thursday and Edge Swim Team on Friday.
