Mary Hogan seeking to fill two board slots

MIDDLEBURY — The Mary Hogan Elementary School (ID-4) board is looking to fill two vacancies in the wake of recent resignations.
Board member Ruth Hardy has stepped down from the board in anticipation of a long-term family commitment abroad. She was in her first three-year term on the seven-member panel.
Serena Eddy-Moulton, an eight-year veteran of the board and its former chairwoman, also stepped down recently, citing a need to spend more time with family.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed serving on the board for the past eight years and wish to express my genuine admiration and appreciation for the manner in which our school’s administrators, teachers, staff and fellow board members have devoted themselves to providing an excellent and enrichment-filled education for the children of Middlebury,” Eddy-Moulton wrote in her June 3 letter of resignation.
The board recently put out a call for Middlebury residents interested in filling the vacancies. Hardy’s unexpired term runs through March 2013, while Eddy-Moulton’s runs through March of 2014. Each applicant will be expected to serve the balance of the term to which he or she is appointed.
The ID-4 board this Monday, June 27, is slated to consider resident Jennifer Bleich for one of the two vacancies. She has already expressed a willingness to serve.
Karen Lefkoe, chairwoman of the ID-4 board, is still looking for letters of interest from other potential appointees. Anyone interested should send a letter to Lefkoe c/o the Mary Hogan School, 201 Mary Hogan Drive, Middlebury, Vt., 05753, or e-mail her at [email protected].
Lefkoe is optimistic the board will find two good candidates to join the panel, which will continue to deal with such issues as considering a second-language program, dealing with a tight budgeting process, and planning for upcoming playground renovations.
The board will also soon see some transitions in the Addison Central Supervisory Union office. Superintendent Lee Sease’s contract expires on July 1. He will be replaced by interim Superintendent Gail B. Conley for the coming year while ACSU officials look for a permanent ACSU school head.
