MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury officials are preparing a search for a new assistant town manager to take over for Joe Colangelo, who left that post last week to become town administrator in Hinesburg.
Officials will first review the assistant town manager’s job description to see if it should be adjusted before it is advertised. It is a job with a focus on municipal budget and human resources issues.
“I don’t see a lot of tinkering (with the job description),” said Middlebury Town Manager Bill Finger. “Some of the duties may change a little bit.”
It is a job that usually takes two to three months to fill, according to Finger.
“We don’t want it to linger too long,” he said.
Colangelo had served as Middlebury’s assistant manager for the past three and a half years. He succeeded Kathleen Ramsay, who is now the town manager in Killington.
Colangelo moved to Vermont in 2006 to take a one-year internship program in Barre Town. He was subsequently hired as Middlebury’s assistant town manager.
Finger said he wishes Colangelo the best.
“I’m glad to see him get a new position that I think will help him advance his career,” Finger said. “It is a gain for Hinesburg and a loss for us. We’ve learned that good things don’t last forever.”
