BRISTOL — On Tuesday, the Bristol Energy Committee presented the Mount Abraham Union High School board with a plan to install solar panels on the roof of the school building.
But it will be awhile before Mount Abe opts for arrays.
“At this point, it’s just not cost-effective,” Chairman Lanny Smith said. “It would take 48 years before we would see any payback on them. It doesn’t make any sense.”
The Mount Abe school board only had time for the presentation before breaking to head into a Addison Northeast Supervisory Union district-wide school board meeting to discuss assessment scores and state-mandated class sizes.
“There wasn’t anything major at all being discussed,” Smith said.
The state class-size policy that restricts classes to a maximum of 18-22 students had briefly been discussed at the Oct. 5 Mount Abe board meeting. The discussion was continued on a district level, though — according to Smith — there was not a whole lot to go over.
“It comes from above — it’s a general guideline,” he said in an interview Wednesday morning. “And we’re already abiding by it anyway so it’s just what we are going to do.”
The next Mount Abe board meeting is scheduled for Nov. 9, at 7 p.m. at the high school library. It will again be held in conjunction with an all-district meeting.
“We’ll be discussing school security cameras, which we tabled at this last meeting,” Smith said.
