New Haven DRB signs off on Rt. 7 car lot with list of conditions

NEW HAVEN — On Monday, members of the New Haven Development Review Board (DRB) signed off on Mike McGrath’s application to place a lot selling up to 100 used cars on his Route 7 property, which already hosts McGrath Flooring Center Inc. The DRB tentatively approved the car lot last week, and signed off on the official permit on Monday after presenting McGrath with a list of conditions.
In addition to the 200-foot space between the cars and the road required by zoning bylaws, DRB Chairman Tim Bouton outlined these conditions for the lot:
• Hours of operation are to be 8 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday-Saturday.
• A maximum of 100 vehicles may be for sale.
• Lighting cannot cause glare for drivers on Route 7.
• The lot is limited to the space allowance set on the site plan.
• Any changes must come back to the board for approval .
Bouton said the permit will not become effective for 30 days, which is the time allotted for appeals.
“The clock started when we signed (Monday) night,” Bouton said.
Though citizens of New Haven have a 30-day grace period in which to appeal the plan for the used cars to be added to the McGrath Flooring Center property, Bouton does not foresee any uproar.
“I don’t anticipate any challenges simply because there weren’t any people there (Monday) night to challenge it,” he said.
