HARTFORD — Local athletes won five state titles this past weekend at the summer-ending Vermont Swim Association championship meet.
Middlebury Aquatic Club Panther Max Moulton won two events, the 14-and-under boys’ 50- and 100-yard breaststroke races, while his 15-year-old Panther teammate Grace Pyne won the U-16 girls’ 100-yard breaststroke. Each also placed in several other events.
The Vergennes Champs U-8 boys’ relay teams duplicated their feat from the Champlain Valley Swim League meet the weekend before, sweeping both the 100-yard medley and free relays by substantial margins. The quartet of Robbie Bicknell, Jeffrey Stearns, Max Konczal and Aiden Gardner swam both events.
Many other swimmers from both teams placed in multiple events.
Overall, the Panthers were seventh out of the 21 teams, and fifth in the five-team second division with 1,016 points. The Champs were 12th overall and fifth in the five-team third division with 826.50 points.
Five-time CVSL winner Burlington Tennis Club breezed to the overall crown with 2,850.5, with Burlington Country Club (2,316) in second. The only non-CVSL team to crack the top seven was Brattleboro (1,205.5), which came in third in the second division and fifth overall. Town of Essex Swim Team (1,528) won Division II, and Rutland (1,146) won D-III.
