Bristol board OKs sewer, water budgets

BRISTOL — In addition to discussing the proposed Lathrop gravel pit, Bristol selectmen at their meeting on Monday took several other actions. These included:
• Approved budgets for the town’s water and sewer districts. Rate increases for the coming year are not anticipated for either utility, and the two budgets are supported by user fees and not taxpayer dollars.
• Discussed the possibility of mounting a remote speaker in the bell tower of Howden Hall to use during the Fourth of July parade and outhouse races so that announcements can be heard more clearly throughout the downtown area.
• Awarded the second contract for the Holley Hall renovations to Naylor & Breen Builders. The first part of the contract for renovating the hall was awarded to the Brandon-based builders on April 26, and the second part was delayed while the town waited to earn eligibility for certain grant funding. The two bids total $614,000.
• Reviewed sidewalk reconstruction bids and salt shed engineering proposals.
