Holley Hall renovation awarded to Brandon firm

BRISTOL — The Bristol selectboard on Monday, April 26, awarded the contract for the renovation of Holley Hall to Brandon-based Naylor & Breen Builders, who came in with the low bid for the project at $614,000.
Bristol voters approved the town to borrow up to $750,000 for the repairs in a December bond vote. The repairs will make the building more handicap accessible, fix structural and wiring problems, add insulation and reorganize the basement town offices.
The repairs will include:
• Extensive renovations to make the building more handicap accessible, including a new ramp entrance, handicap accessible bathrooms, and a lift to the main hall.
• Insulating and weatherizing the main auditorium and bell tower.
• Reorganizing the basement offices, so more historic windows would be “reopened” after being blocked in previous renovations.
• Installing a more efficient heating system and safer ventilation.
• Building a multipurpose room in the basement offices that could be used for meetings and performances.
Town Administrator Bill Bryant said the construction will likely start in May, and town officials hope that the town clerk will be able to set up shop in the new offices in advance of the November tax payments and general election.
The bid has been divided into two parts, the second designated for handicap-accessible improvements. Naylor & Breen bid $524,000 for the first part of the contract, and $90,000 for the second part. The second bid has not been awarded officially yet because the town is still doing a required environmental review to be eligible for grant money.
