MIDDLEBURY — Four Middlebury residents have stepped forward hoping to fill the remaining four months on soon-to-be-former selectman Bill Perkins’ term.
Perkins confirmed on Oct. 13 that he will officially step down from the board at the end of this month. He is moving to Colorado and therefore cannot continue in a post he has held since 1992.
Submitting letters of interest for the post are:
• Ted Shambo, a former member of the Middlebury Zoning Board and Mary Hogan Elementary School Board. The current membership director for the Addison County Chamber of Commerce, Shambo has also served on the local Little League board, the Middlebury Rotary Club and with the Vermont Chamber Association.
• Nick Artim, a nationally known fire protection consultant. He is leading an ad hoc committee that is analyzing future facilities needs for the Middlebury Volunteer Fire Department.
• Jeremy Rathbun, a small-scale farmer and current civil/mechanical engineer employed with Phelps Engineering.
• Travis Forbes, who with his family operates Case Street Redi-Mix Inc.
Selectmen reviewed the four candidates’ letters of interest on Tuesday evening and agreed to invite them in for interviews at their next meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 10, at which time they will pick Perkins’ replacement.
Whomever is picked to fill the vacancy will be able to run — along with any other eligible Middlebury resident — for a three-year term on the board on Town Meeting Day next March.
