BRISTOL — Ashlie Fay and Meghan Livingston each scored 13 points to lead the No. 1 Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ basketball team to a 46-16 win over visiting No. 8 Lamoille in a Division II quarterfinal on Friday.

The Eagles (21-1) took a 16-4 first-quarter lead thanks to their patented pressure defense and nine points from Fay, who Mount Abe Coach Connie LaRose described as “the engine” that powers the team. Lizzie Huizenga added three points and Jordan Emmons and Isabel Brennan chipped in two each in the period.

JAY PEAK — Despite a 34-10 advantage in shots on goal in Saturday’s Division II semifinal, the No. 6 Middlebury Union High School girls’ hockey team came up short at No. 2 North Country, 3-2.

The Tigers finished at 13-9, including an overtime playoff win at No. 3 Rutland and a win at No. 1 Harwood in their regular season finale that showed they were a threat for the D-II title.

Coach Tim Howlett said the team also played well on Saturday, but ran into some bad luck and a hot goaltender, the 16-5 Falcons Mikaella Doran.

BRISTOL — As expected, any resistance No. 16 Missisquoi offered to the No. 1 Mount Abraham Union High School girls’ basketball team in Tuesday’s first-round Division II playoff game was futile.

The 20-1 Eagles forced 13 first-quarter turnovers in taking a 17-1 lead after eight minutes, and then put it on cruise control on the way to a 60-17 win over the 3-18 T-Birds.
