BethAnn Laramay

MONKTON — BethAnn Laramay, 48, of Monkton died at her parents’ home on March 10, 2008, following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Malone, N.Y., on September 19, 1959, the only daughter of Norman Laramay and Kathleen (Kay) Barse Laramay of Moira, N.Y.

She graduated from Trinity College in Burlington in 1981. She continued her education at SUNY Potsdam, receiving a master’s degree in education. She also attended Lesley University in Cambridge, Mass., receiving certification in reading recovery.

She taught reading at Brushton-Moira Central in New York and from 2005 to 2008 at Lincoln Community School in Lincoln. She was also a consultant for the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union in Bristol, and she taught other teachers in Vermont how to do reading recovery.

She lived in Middlebury for eight years in the 1980s and worked at the Counseling Service of Addison County.

She is survived by her parents; three brothers, Michael Laramay and his wife Elizabeth of Moira, N.Y., Steven Laramay and his wife Rebecca of Texas, and Mark Laramay and his companion Vickie of Malone, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by two brothers in infancy.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Ann’s Church, St. Regis Falls, N.Y., on Saturday, March 15, at 11 a.m., with Father Alfred Fish officiating. A gathering of friends and family will follow immediately at St. Ann’s Parish Hall. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be in The East Dickinson Cemetery in the spring.

Althea Muriel Keeler

LEICESTER — Althea Muriel Keeler, 84, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at her home in Leicester with her family by her side. She was born in Troy, N.Y., on March 15, 1923, the daughter of Charles and Marie (Kuhl) Hefflon.

She earned her nursing degree from what is now known as Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, Mass.

She began her nursing career working for the Veteran’s Administration in White River Junction. She worked at the Brandon Training School for 21 years, where she became a nursing supervisor and was known for her love and dedication to the residents she cared for. She retired in 1987.

According to family she loved to travel — as a teenager she once took a bicycle trip from Vermont to the coast of Maine with her girlfriends — and she also loved winter sports and was an avid skier and snowmobiler until her arthritis forced her to give them up.

She is survived by her son, Martin “Dutch” Keeler and his fiancée Jennifer Hornbeck of Leicester; her daughter, Martina Barrows and her husband Barry J. of Roscoe, N.Y.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother, Carmon “Van” Hefflon.

Private services will be held at the convenience of her family.

Pamela Vincent Field

NEW HAVEN — Pamela Vincent Field, cherished mother, Nana and friend, passed away peacefully at her home on Wednesday, March 5, 2008, courageously battling a long illness. She was born Pamela Ann Vincent on July 9, 1943, in Springfield, Mass., to Richard Paul Vincent and Helen Coursey Vincent.

Upon her father passing in 1945, she moved to Vermont with her mother, her twin sister Penelope and older sister Jacquelyn and spent the remainder of her life in East Middlebury and New Haven.

After graduating from Middlebury Union High School in 1961, Pam attended Champlain College and graduated in 1963 with an associate’s degree in legal secretarial studies.

She started her career within the legal field as a secretary in the law offices of McNamara and Fitzpatrick in Burlington and ended as the clerk of the Probate Court in Addison County. Throughout her time working she established herself as an impressive and integral part of the Vermont legal system, receiving much praise from attorneys and judges alike.

After her retirement in 2003, Pam devoted much of her time and herself to helping others. If there was a way for her to assist someone she would do it. Pam was devoted to the Catholic religion and was an active member of St. Mary’s parish in Middlebury. She also worked in the after school program at the St. Mary’s School.

Her love of animals led her to become involved with the St. Bernard Rescue Society and she opened her heart and her home to several of these beautiful dogs.

Pam was always busy but she made sure to find the time for those things she really enjoyed including cooking, traveling, being outdoors and, most of all, spending time with her family and friends! She took special pride in her role as the Nana of her two grandchildren Everett and Maile.

Pam’s passing will leave a great void in the lives of those she loved and cared for and those who loved and cared for her.

Survivors include her eldest son, Jeffery of New Haven; her daughter, Katharina, her grandson, Everett, and granddaughter, Maile, all of St. Augustine, Fla.; her sister, Jacquelyn Phillips of Sherwood, Ark.; two nephews, a niece and several cousins. She also leaves behind a special friend, Nick Cassarino of Weybridge.

She was predeceased by her parents; her twin sister, Penelope; and her son, Jonathan.

A memorial will be held for her and her son Jonathan at St. Mary’s in Middlebury on Wednesday, March 19, at 11 a.m.

Vernon H. Devine

NORTH FERRISBURGH — Vernon H. Devine, 86, of North Ferrisburgh died on Sunday, March 9, 2008, in Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington. He was born on June 30, 1921, in Vaiden, Miss., the son of Exie and Jeff Devine.

He entered the U.S. Army in 1941, and was stationed at Camp Shelby, Miss. He was later stationed at Fort Ethan Allen in Colchester from January to May 1943. He served in the European Theatre, Africa, Italy and Germany.

He was decorated with the Purple Heart, American Defense Medal, American Campaign Medal, EAME Campaign Medal and three Bronze Battle Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 782 and the DAV Chapter 5.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Grace (Fondry) Devine; two daughters, Donna Warren and her husband Dale of Orleans, and Dianne Marcotte and her husband Marcel of North Ferrisburgh; three sisters, Sadie Tullos, Lela Karvalis and Mable Reeves; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, Vernon and William; one great-grandson; one brother; and one sister.

Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.

Richard Morris Brace Sr.

ANTON — Richard Morris Brace Sr., 69, died Monday, March 10, 2008, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington surrounded by his family.  He was born June 9, 1938, in Middlebury, the son of Lester and Rose Martell Brace.

He married Sandi Burnett on March 22, 1958. He spent his whole life farming around Addison County.

Richard is survived by his wife of 49 years; his children, Polly Brace and her companion Norman Dunham, Richard Brace Jr., and Mark Brace; his mother-in-law Rachael Burnett; two grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; three brothers, a sister, and several nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two daughters.

SHELBURNE — Linda A. Bougor, 60, formerly of Middlebury, died Friday, March 7, 2008, at her home in Shelburne. She was born Aug. 11, 1947, in St. Albans, the daughter of Donald and Dorothy (Lashapelle) Scott.

She was a former member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. She was a member of the Middlebury American Legion Auxiliary. According to family Linda enjoyed playing cards and dice and loved to look at pictures, the great outdoors and sitting on her porch. She enjoyed traveling, visiting with family and friends, and her trips to Canada to see her sister.

She is survived by her husband, Henry G. Bougor Sr. of Shelburne; her daughter, Amy L. Bougor of Shelburne; her two sons, Robert J. Bougor and his wife Nicole, of Shoreham, and Henry G. Bougor Jr. and his wife Christy of Essex Junction; eight grandchildren; her sisters, Yvette Hughes and her husband Johnny, and Wendy Shedrick and her husband Ralph of Clarenceville, Quebec, Canada; her brothers, Ronald Scott and his wife Rese of Morrisville, N.Y., Ricky Scott and his wife Trish of Manchester, N.H., and David Scott and his wife Mela of St. Albans; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and many cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 14, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. at Sanderson Funeral Service at 117 South Main St. in Middlebury.
