LOREN R. “JOE” ANDREWS

HANCOCK — Loren R. “Joe” Andrews, 97, died peacefully at his home in Hancock with his granddaughter at his side on Wednesday, June 21, 2017.

He was born February 19, 1920, in Hancock, the son of Charles “Fred” and Lura (Howe) Andrews. Joe attended Hancock and Rochester schools. Following his education he went to work at Weyerhaeuser in Hancock, a job he had for over 40 years until retiring in 1986.

He was married to Wanda Mae “Nan” Smith May 16, 1942 in Rochester.

DORIS E. WICKMAN

RUTLAND TOWN — Doris E. Wickman, 93, of Rutland Town and formerly Orwell, died at the Rutland Regional Medical Center on June 8, 2017.

She was born on July 5, 1923, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of Joseph and Anna (Bene) Elbert.

Mrs. Wickman graduated from the Park Ridge High School in Park Ridge, N.J.

She was married to Richard Wickman in 1946.  He predeceased her in 1998.

A. BEULAH REYNOLDS

BRISTOL — A. Beulah Reynolds, 94, passed away Thursday, June 15, 2017, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

She was born on July 2, 1922, in Bristol, Conn., the daughter of Carl and Gladys (Smout) Mahannah.

She enjoyed gardening and her animals — cats, dogs, goat, turkeys, chickens, ducks and geese. She worked at Drake Smith and Shelburne Museum for several years.

ELIZABETH G. PIERCE

SALISBURY — Elizabeth G. Pierce, 92, died Thursday, June 15, 2017.

She was born October 16, 1924, in Philadelphia, Pa., the daughter of Millard and Sarah (Baxter) Goe.

Elizabeth was a graduate of Douglass College and a Veteran of World War II, serving with the United States Navy (WAVES).

She is predeceased by her husband and best friend of fifty years, Charles W. Pierce.

HESTER BUELL PHELPS

ORWELL — Hester Buell Phelps, age 98, was called home by the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2017, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

Ms. Phelps was born in Rutland on April 7, 1918. She was the daughter of Frank and Jennie (Buell) Phelps. She was a graduate of Goddard College in Plainfield, Vt. She afterwards served at Goddard College, as Librarian. She later worked as a proof reader for several organizations in Albany, N.Y. She had also served the Town of Orwell as Librarian. Her passions were music, her sheep and books.

MARGARET MARY OWEN

BRISTOL — Margaret Mary Owen passed to the Lord on Monday, June 19, 2017, at her home in Bristol.

She was born in Hinesburg on September 2, 1926 and attended the Hinesburg School.

She married Winfred Owen on August 11, 1945. He predeceased her after 46 years of marriage on September 6, 1991.

She is survived by their son, Alton Owen of Virginia Beach, Va., and his wife Merry, two grandsons, Bill and Thomas and wife, Emily of Virginia. They had two great grandchildren of Oklahoma, Emily and Seth Owen.

WILLIAM D. NASS

MIDDLEBURY — William D. (Bill) Nass, 57, passed away on Sunday, June 18, 2017 at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington.

Bill leaves his mother, Joyce Nass of Southbridge, Mass.; a daughter, Sara Nass and her husband, Curtis Lee of Morgantown, W.V.; a son, Andrew Nass of Sturbridge, Mass.; his significant other, Teresa Whittemore of Middlebury; a sister, Margaret Whitney and her husband, Richard of Southbridge, Mass.; and his niece and nephew. He was predeceased by his father.

KATHRYN M. GAMMON

BRISTOL — Kathryn M. Gammon, 72, of Bristol passed away on June 12 in her home, surrounded by family. She was born on February 23, 1945 in Pittsburgh Pa.

She is survived by her two children Lauren (Starkboro) and Bryce (Australia); her brother Ray (Ohio); her five grandchildren Sylvia, Evelyn, Hazel-Bee, Mardi, and Milo; and her two nephews Tyson and Devon.

A memorial service will be held at her house on the 1st of July. 

WINFRED COUSINO

BRISTOL — A graveside service Winfred (Fred) H. Cousino will be held 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 24th at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol.

MARVIN P. WILCOX

WINCHESTER, N.H. — Marvin P. “Marty” Wilcox 71, of Warwick Road, Winchester, N.H., and formerly of Swanzey, N.H., passed away peacefully at his home in Winchester on Sunday, June 11, 2017.

He was born in Vergennes, Vt., on July 19, 1945, the son of Seeley Elmer and Dorothy Lena (Cyr) Wilcox.  He grew up in Vergennes, and then moved to this area at the age of 21.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
