ROBERT GEROW JR.

SALISBURY— Robert “Rob” Henry Gerow Jr., 62, died June 9, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born in Middlebury on March 27, 1952. He was the son of Robert and Caroline (Manter) Gerow Sr. He was a longtime resident of Lake Dunmore.

He is survived by many family members and friends.

A memorial gathering “In Celebration of His Life” will take place, at a date and location to be announced.

HAROLD "PETE" GOSSELIN

RICHMOND — Harold W. “Pete” Gosselin, 48, a Shoreham native and Middlebury Union High School graduate, died on Dec. 29, 2013. He will be buried on Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m. at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Tilden Avenue, in Richmond.

ROY LAROSE

BRISTOL — Roy E. LaRose passed away suddenly on Friday, June 13, 2014.

Born June 11, 1926, in Monkton, Vt., he was the youngest child of the late Roy C. and Virginia (Collins) LaRose. Roy married the love of his life, the late Lucille (Bushey) LaRose, on Aug. 1, 1948.

MILLICENT ROONEY

WEYBRIDGE — Following a brief illness, Millicent James Rooney, 86, long-time resident of Weybridge, Vt., passed away at her home on June 13, 2014, surrounded by her family.

Born to Richard and Marjory Bingham James on June 3, 1928, during their brief residency in Pulaski, N.Y., Millicent grew up in Weybridge, attended Middlebury High School and graduated from the University of Vermont. There, she formed life-long Alpha Chi Omega sorority friendships and met James Rooney from Newport, Vt. They married in 1951 and settled permanently in Weybridge eight years later.

CLARA CARROLL

SALISBURY — Clara D. Carroll, a longtime resident of Salisbury, died peacefully on Monday, June 2, 2014, at Shard Villa in Salisbury.

Born in Salisbury Jan. 23, 1925, she was the daughter of Howard E. DeVoid Sr. and Jennie (Baker) DeVoid.

Following her graduation from Middlebury High School, she attended Berkshire College in Pittsfield, Mass., where she earned her associate degree in business administration.

MARGUERITE CLARK

WALTHAM, Vt./LEESBURG, Fla. — A graveside service for Marguerite Allen Farnsworth Clark, who died Nov. 27, 2013, at age 94, will be held on Tuesday, June 17, at 11:30 a.m. at Prospect Cemetery in Vergennes.

There will be a light luncheon at the Vergennes Congregational Church following the service. In the event of inclement weather the service will be at the church. 

DAVID FORMAN

LINCOLN — Benjamin David Forman, 74, died unexpectedly Wednesday, June 4, 2014.

David was born Jan. 27, 1940, in Rochester, N.Y., the son of the late Edward and Irene Forman.

David was a graduate of Colgate University and the University of Vermont. He taught at Montclair Academy in Montclair, N.J., and St. Mark’s School of Texas in Dallas, Texas, and, for the last 23 years of his teaching career, at Middlesex School in Concord, Mass.

He married Jean McCleery on May 14, 1966.

CAROLYN HAMEL

MASSACHUSETTS — Carolyn Chamberlain Hamel, 67, of Massachusetts died May 21, 2014, after a long illness.

She was born March 28, 1947, in Ferrisburgh, Vt., the oldest child of Raymond and Eleanor Chamberlain.

She is survived by her two children, Candie and Charlie Hamel of Massachusetts; a sister, Debbie (Wayland) Brace of Panton, Vt.; grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Chamberlain.

She was predeceased by her parents; a brother, Ray; and a nephew, Dennis.

A remembrance will be held at a later date.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
