CHARLES EDDY III

ORWELL — Charles “Chuck” Eddy III died peacefully in the arms of his loving wife, Mary Anne, September 1, 2017, at their home in Orwell.

Chuck was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and moved to Connecticut with his parents, Charles F. and Nellie Bretz Eddy, as a young boy. Upon graduating from King School in Stamford, CT, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he served as a bombardier of a B-24 in the South Pacific Theater in World War II.

VIOLA LOUISE WHITE

NEWPORT, N.H. — On Friday night, Sept. 1, Viola Louise (Doxter) White passed from this world at the age of 92.

She was born November 8, 1924 in Newport, N.H., the daughter of Robert Doxter and Mary Louise Tarrien. Viola was raised on a farm in Sunapee, N.H. with her three brothers Richard, Alfred, and Leo. She worked for many companies in the Newport area including Dorr Woolen and Sturm-Ruger Gun Corporation before she found her niche in the payroll department at Dartmouth College, where she worked until she retired.

KELLY MICHELLE NEWTON

BARRE — Kelly Michelle Newton, 57 of Barre, Vt., passed away quietly on Aug. 30, 2017. She was born in Middlebury Vt., on May 14, 1960, to June H. Newton and Philip R. Newton. She loved being surrounded by people. Kelly is survived by five brothers; Douglas Newton, David Newton and Dean Newton of Brandon; Jeffrey Newton of Rutland and Bradley Newton of Pittsford; and two sisters, Lorrie Palin of Barre and Mary Newton of Brandon. Kelly was predeceased  by her parents, an infant brother and a brother Patrick Newton.

MARJORIE A. PAQUETTE

BRISTOL — Marjorie A. Paquette (Cousino) born April 7, 1936, in Bristol, passed away at 81, September 6, at home with family by her side. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of 64 years just 9 short days ago.

She resided in Bristol with her husband and raised seven children; Anne Layn and husband David, and Amy Driscoll and husband Mark both of Monkton; Emile and Elaine Paquette, Gerri Barrows and husband Gary, Pat and Sage Paquette, Tim and Melanie Paquette, and Alice Barnum and husband Charles all of New Haven.

JOHN BIRCHARD

SILVER SPRING, Md. — Veteran broadcaster-writer John Birchard died Aug. 22, 2017, at home in Silver Spring, Md., at the age of 81.

A Vermont native, Mr. Birchard enlisted in the U.S. Air Force following graduation from high school in Shoreham, Vt.

CAROL (BRISTOL) JENNINGS

VERGENNES — Carol (Bristol) Jennings of Vergennes passed peacefully surrounded by her children on Aug. 31, 2017, after a long illness. She was born to Kenneth and Kathleen (Kay) Bristol of Vergennes on July 9, 1939. Her sister Brenda predeceased her in June 2010.

Carol Jennings, 78, Vergennes

VERGENNES — Carol (Bristol) Jennings of Vergennes passed peacefully surrounded by her children on Aug. 31, 2017, after a long illness. She was born to Kenneth and Kathleen (Kay) Bristol of Vergennes on July 9, 1939. Her sister Brenda predeceased her in June 2010.

Katherine G. Schmidt

MIDDLEBURY — A memorial and celebration of the life of Katherine G. Schmidt, who died Jan. 11 at her East Middlebury home at the age of 94, will be held Saturday, Sept. 9, from 1-3 p.m. at the Champlain Valley Unitarian-Universalist Society, 2 Duane Court, Middlebury.

Emile A. Paquette

BRISTOL — Emile A. Paquette, born October 29, 1932, in New Haven, passed away at 84 on Monday Aug. 28, at his home in Bristol with his loving wife by his side.

Emile married Marjorie Cousino on July 18, 1953. They resided in Bristol and raised seven children: Anne Layn and husband David of Monkton; Emile and Elaine Paquette of New Haven; Geralyn Barrows and husband Gary of New Haven; Pat and Sage Paquette of New Haven; Tim and Melanie Paquette of New Haven; Alice Barnum and husband Charles of New Haven, and Amy Driscoll and husband Mark of Monkton.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
