STARKSBORO — Alfred H. Thompson, 92, passed away Thursday, Feb. 18, 2010, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

Georgia Wetherby

RUTLAND — Georgia Anna Wetherby, 79, of Lexington, S.C., died peacefully Monday, Feb. 22, 2010, at the home of her son in Rutland, after a courageous battle with cancer.

At her request there will be no services or calling hours but a gathering of family and friends will be held in the spring.

Reed Prescott

LEXINGTON, Ky./BRISTOL, Vt. — Tech. Sgt. Reed Asaph Prescott II, 74, died Monday, Feb. 22, 2010.

Calling Hours will be at Brown-McClay Funeral Home in Bristol on Thursday, Feb. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 26, at Bristol Federated Church. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. Memorial contributions can be made to Bristol Federated Church Parsonage Roof Fund, or United Church of Lincoln Youth Ministries.

John Kipp

PANTON — John J. Kipp of Panton died early Friday morning, Feb. 19, at the age of 84.

There will be no calling hours. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m., at the Champlain Valley Christian Reformed Church in Vergennes. A reception will follow.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of the Champlain Valley Christian Reformed Church or the Addison County Humane Society.

He was born May 21, 1925, in Paterson, N.J., to William Leonard and Jeanette Vermuelen Kipp.

RUTLAND — Orin Kendall Field, 79, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at Westview Group Home in Rutland.

He was born April 24, 1930, in Shoreham, the son of Charles and Elizabeth Stokes Field.

Friends say he did a lot of traveling with his father and stepmother.

He was survived by many friends from Westview Court Group Home in Rutland.

Millicent Barnard

SHOREHAM, Vt./GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Millicent “Middy” Barnard, 86, passed away Sunday, Feb. 14, 2010, at Hospice Haven in Gainesville, Fla.

She was born Feb. 9, 1924, in Middlebury, the daughter of Luke and Alice (Briggs) Connor.

SALISBURY — Robert Charles Amblo, 65, died Friday, Feb. 19, 2010, at his home in Salisbury.

The graveside committal service and burial will take place at a later date in the family lot at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Brandon.

There are no public calling hours.

Jeffery Lyons

MONKTON — Jeffery Alan Lyons passed away peacefully at home early Monday morning, Feb. 15. He fought mightily to not leave his beloved wife, Kristin; his sons, Schuyler and Grayson; his parents, John and Moe Lyons; his sister, Pam Lyons Eicher; a multitude of friends; and two faithful dogs.

A memorial service was held at the Vergennes Congregational Church Saturday, Feb. 20, with a reception following.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
