ALBERT GRIFFIN

SUDBURY — Albert Calvin Griffin, 43, died Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home in Sudbury.

He was born in Middlebury on Sept. 18, 1970. He was the son of Calvin and Mary (Koktowski) Griffin. He grew up in Sudbury and received his early education in Sudbury and Brandon schools. He graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1988.

FRANCIS "FRANK" DITTAMI JR

SALISBURY — Francis “Frank” Randolph Dittami Jr., age 74, died Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at his home in Salisbury.

Mr. Dittami was born in Winsted, Conn., on Jan. 27, 1939. He was the son of Francis and Rose (Cuneo) Dittami. He received his early education in Medford, Mass., schools and graduated from Framingham (Mass.) High School, class of 1957. He earned his degree in education from Worcester State College.

BETTY GODFREY

POST MILLS — Graveside services for Betty Godfrey of Brandon, who died on Sept. 11, 2013, will be held at the Post Mills Cemetery at 11 a.m. on Oct. 19, 2013. A potluck luncheon will follow at the Post Mills Church.
 

WAYNE HILL

STARKSBORO — Wayne C. Hill, 96, of Starksboro died peacefully surrounded by his family Oct. 10, 2013.

He was born May 28, 1917, at home in Starksboro, the son of Carroll and Sadie Atkins Hill.

He married Beatrice Hill on Aug. 18, 1945. She predeceased him on Dec. 10, 1983.

He lived all of his life in Starksboro. There he operated a dairy farm and sugaring operation. His family says he was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman. He also held different town positions during his earlier years. He was a member of Starksboro First Baptist Church.

MARILYN NOLTER

KINGSVILLE, Texas — Marilyn Elizabeth Nolter, 71, of Kingsville, Texas, died on Oct. 11, 2013, at Christus Spohn Hospital Klegerg due to natural causes.

She was born May 29, 1942, in Middlebury, Vt., to Edward Charles Brileya and Alta Alberta (Bishop) Brileya. She attended St. Mary’s School and graduated from Vergennes High School. She was married to Kenneth G. Nolter for 49 years before his death in December 2012.

CARL PEABODY

MIDDLEBURY — Much to his surprise, Carl Alan Peabody (DOB 5/9/38) arrived at the Pearly Gates on October 11, 2013. He checked the pearls carefully to make sure they were real. Then the gates opened and Carl stepped inside announcing, “If you’re having a good time, smile.” He was met by his parents, Alice and George Peabody, and sister, Joan, who were smiling. However, Carl was disappointed that there wasn’t more fanfare for his arrival. He decided to find Poppa Wheelie, his mini Middlebury Police Parade Vehicle, to start a new welcoming tradition.

JILL SHACKETT

SHOREHAM — Jill Lynne Shackett, 35, died Aug. 6, 2013, in Bristol, Conn.

Ms. Shackett was born in New Britain, Conn., on Aug. 8, 1977. She was the daughter of Thomas and Donna (Peters) Shackett. She earned a Masters Degree in Education, becoming a teacher in 2001. She taught at South Side Elementary School in Bristol, Conn. She was recently recognized as “the teacher who had the most impact on a graduating high school senior’s life.” She was an avid reader, but her focus was on helping others.

NEW HAVEN — Olivia Mae Scott, 16, a junior at Mount Abraham Union High School, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013.

She was born Aug. 18, 1997, in Middlebury, the daughter of Peter Watson Scott and Stephanie Manning and resided in New Haven with her father and sister.

ROBERT BROOKS

MIDDLEBURY — Robert Winsor Brooks, 84, of Cornwall died Sunday morning, Oct. 6, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center.

He was born June 14, 1929, in Laconia, N.H., the son of the late Earl and Vera (Stanley) Brooks. He was a graduate of Laconia High School, class of 1947.

He moved from Laconia to Cornwall in 1971. He was a member of the Cornwall Congregational Church and the Middlebury Lions Club and was a volunteer at Porter Hospital, the Red Cross blood drive and the V.F.W. Middlebury Thanksgiving Dinner.

ELVIRA GIANNETTI

RUTLAND TOWN — Elvira Giannetti, 93, of Rutland Town died Saturday morning, Oct. 5, 2013, at her residence following a brief illness.

She was born on Feb. 14, 1920, in Keene, N.H., the daughter of Francisco and Rena(Casillo) Lioce.

Her family moved to Brattleboro when her father, who was a stonecutter, had to relocate for work. She attended school in Brattleboro and later worked for the Margolin Co., a leather goods manufacturer, until her marriage to Agostino Giannetti on Sept. 22, 1951, at Saint Michael’s Church in Brattleboro.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
