Iris Little Stacy

ORWELL, Vt./NORFOLK, Va. — Iris Little Stacy, 99, died April 23, 2011, at Ballentine Home in Norfolk, Va.

She was born in Monkton on Feb. 11, 1912. She was the daughter of Frank and Flora (Carpenter) Little. She was a retired schoolteacher in the Orwell school system.

Surviving is a son-in-law, Charles “Skip” Patnode of Norfolk, Va.; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

William T. Brown

SALISBURY — William T. Brown, 80, died early Saturday morning, June 25, 2011, at the Robinson home in Salisbury.

He was born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y., Aug. 28, 1930, the son of Wilbur E. and Charlotte Brown.

He was a United States Navy veteran, serving during the Korean Conflict at the Naval Training Center, Newport, R.I., on the USS Wisconsin and USS Roanoke.

He was formerly employed by Simmonds Precision of Vergennes.

Elaine Marie Farrell

MIDDLEBURY — The graveside committal service and burial for Elaine Marie Farrell, 82, who died Dec. 3, 2010, was held on Friday, June 24, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury.

The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury, officiated.

Evelyn Ina (Champion) Viskup

SOUTH BURLINGTON — Evelyn Ina (Champion) Viskup, 96, died Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Pillsbury Manor, South Burlington, where she had resided since 2005 after moving from Little Falls, N.Y.

She was born on June 2, 1915, in Little Falls, where she spent the first 90 years of her life. She was the daughter of the late Harry M. Champion and Bessie (Van Allen) Champion. She graduated from Little Falls High School and Utica Business College.

Francis Lawrence Preseau

ORWELL — Francis Lawrence Preseau, 60, of Orwell died Wednesday, June 22, 2011, upon arrival at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

He was born in Middlebury on Feb. 25, 1951. He was the son of Lawrence and Nellie (Moore) Preseau. He grew up in Orwell and received his early education in local Orwell schools. He graduated from Fair Haven Union High School, class of 1969.

John “Pake” Bergmans

FERRISBURGH — John “Pake” Bergmans of Ferrisburgh died June 18, 2011.

He was born in the small town of Ee, in the Netherlands, on Feb. 18, 1941. On Nov. 14, 1963, he married his best friend Jeanette, with whom he shared 47-1/2 years.

Betty Seder Fishman

PALM BEACH, Fla. — Betty Seder Fishman, a longtime resident of Vergennes, Vt., passed away in North Kingstown, R.I., on June 18, 2011, at the age of 90. Mrs. Fishman was most recently a resident of Palm Beach.

She was born to Minnie (Sternlieb) and Harry Seder in Webster, Mass., on April 21, 1921. In July 1940, she married Samuel W. Fishman, a Vergennes attorney, jurist and legislator who predeceased her in 1975.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
