ROBERT SORRELL

ALLENTOWN, Pa. — Robert H. Sorrell, 79, of Allentown died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013, in Lehigh Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Margaret Sorrell. They celebrated their 31st wedding anniversary on July 25, 2012.

Born in Vergennes, Vt., he was a son of the late Harold and Catherine (Casey) Sorrell. He was a construction worker for R.L. Reppert in Allentown for 25 years. He served his country during the Korean War on the aircraft carrier USS Boxer. His relatives say he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed all types of music.

LUCIENNE BORTHWICK

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. — Lucienne Murray “Lucy” Borthwick, 100, peacefully entered heaven on March 7, 2013, in Zephyrhills, Fla. She was born in St. Isidore DePrescott, Ontario, Canada, on Dec. 29, 1912, to John and Alberta (St. Denis) Chartrand.

Lucy moved to Bradenton, Fla., in 1976. She became active in the Sacred Heart Church, Ladies Guild Rosary Makers and served daily bread for 25 years.

ALLAN DICKEY

FAIRFIELD, Maine — Allan Dickey of Fairfield, ME, passed away on Feb. 16, 2013.

Allan was born in Waterville ME, Feb. 21, 1929, the son of George and Vida Marcia Dickey, of Fairfield. He graduated from the University of Maine in 1951 and was employed by H.P. Hood and Sons for 37 years, which brought him to Massachusetts, Vermont and Maine until his retirement in 1990. Allan was very proud to be a Mason and was a member of the Dorchester Lodge of Vermont. He was predeceased by his parents; and his first wife, Etta (Robinson).

DAVID GIBSON

BRANDON — David Gibson, age 88, died Friday, March 8, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury, following a long illness due to a stroke.

He was born in Ayrshire County, Scotland, on Sept. 29, 1924. He was the son of David Sr. and Agnes Munn Gibson. David received his early education in Purchase, N.Y., near Strathglass Farm where he grew up, and worked the farm with dairy cattle.

ELLA MAY LACEY

FREEPORT, Maine/MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Ella May “Peanut” Lacey, 85, a longtime resident of Middlebury, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Freeport Nursing and Rehabilitation in Freeport, Maine.

Born in Middlebury, Feb. 21, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Fred and Ella May (Burbee) Highter.

She was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1947. She was a seamstress employed by Geiger Brothers of Austria prior to her retirement.

LEE MAIDEN JR.

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Lee A. Maiden Jr., 89, died March 11, 2013, in Fort Myers, Fla.

He was born in Barre, Vt., to the late Laura Whitcomb Maiden and Lee A. Maiden Sr. and attended Spaulding High School. After serving in the Navy on the USS McCormick, he returned to Vermont and married his high school sweetheart, Mary Helen Clark. They resided in Middlebury, Vt. While Lee was employed as a branch manager with Boyertown Casket Co. he lived in Delmar, N.Y., and Pottstown, Pa.

CECILE MARCOTTE

MIDDLEBURY — Cecile E. Marcotte died peacefully on Saturday, March 9, 2013, at the Helen Porter Nursing Home, Middlebury, Vermont.

She was born on June 8, 1924, on the family farm in Charlotte to Domina and Lea (Benoit) Aube. She spent her youth working on the family until she married Leo G. Marcotte in 1946.

She attended schools in Charlotte and Shelburne and in 1955 started Mt. Philo Motors with her former husband Leo. They ran the business until the mid 1980s and Leo passed away in 1985.

KELLY CLAIRE OLSON

MIDDLEBURY — Kelly Claire Olson died peacefully with her parents at her side on March 4, 2013, at 2:50 p.m. at the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit of Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington, Vermont.

Kelly was born April 20th, 2006, in Randolph, Vermont, the daughter of Amy A. Roberts and Christopher W. Olson, and sister of loving and caring Isabel A. Olson and loving and caring Fairley B. Olson.

CONNIE STAATS

MIDDLEBURY — With her family at her side, Constance Leona Staats, 84, of Middlebury, passed away peacefully on March 6, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

Connie was born in New York City on Jan. 4, 1929.  She was the daughter of the late Dr. Herbert and Leona Jackson. She earned her bachelor’s degree in children’s theater at Northwestern University in Evanston and her master’s of education at the University of Vermont.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
