SHIRLEY LAPORTE

LEICESTER —Shirley Frances LaPorte, 90, died Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at her home in Leicester.

She was born in Granville, N.Y., on Feb. 9, 1922. She was the daughter of George and Genie (Cone) Taylor.

In her earlier years she worked at Rosen’s National Store in Brandon. Her family says she enjoyed crocheting, knitting, dancing, collecting angels and cooking special treats for family and friends. She enjoyed family gatherings.

She was predeceased by her first husband, Waven Sprague, in 1961.

BARBARA LEE

BRANDON — Barbara Ann Lee, 80, died September 12, 2012, at Fletcher Allen following a brief illness. She was surrounded by her children and her sister at the time of her passing.

She was born April 19, 1932, in Goshen, the daughter of Carl and Gladys (Cook) Forguites.

She graduated from Brandon High School. She worked for many years as a secretary at the Ayrshire Breeders Association and later for the physiatrist at the Brandon Training School. She also worked for Leicester and Neshobe schools in the lunch program.

ROSE KILPECK

BRANDON — Rose Marie Kilpeck, 93, died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, at the Pines at Rutland.

She was born in Thetford Mines, Quebec, Canada, on Dec. 31, 1918. She moved to Barre as a young child. She afterwards moved to Richmond where she received her education.

She married John James Kilpeck in 1945 in Richmond. They had made their home in Brandon since 1959. She worked at the Brandon Training School for more than 30 years. She retired as a dorm superintendent in 1993. Her family says she enjoyed cooking and making homemade breads.

SCOTT SGORBATI

SUDBURY — Scott Christopher Sgorbati, 49, died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

Born March 1, 1963, in Philadelphia, Pa., he was the beloved husband of Kathleen M. Sgorbati, devoted father of Luke and Nahum, and adored youngest son of Richard and Virginia Sgorbati. He was predeceased by his father.

VERONICA “KAY” CUNNINGHAM

MIDDLEBURY — Veronica Catherine Cunningham (Kay), died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 13, 2012. Kay was residing at the Haven Memory Care Unit at the Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury, Vt., having moved there in December of 2010. The wonderful and dedicated staff at the Haven provided exceptional care and was of great comfort to her. In her final weeks she was also cared for by the devoted and loving staff and volunteers of the Addison County Home Health and Hospice.

REAL CHARLEBOIS

BURLINGTON — Real Richard Charlebois, 86, of Burlington, died on Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at The Arbors in Shelburne.

Real (“Mr. C.”) was born in Weybridge on Feb. 26, 1926, to Oliver and Clara (Pomainville) Charlebois.

He worked many years for W.C. Kirby. On April 1, 1962, he and his wife, Bertha, started Charlebois and Sons garage in Burlington. His three sons continued in the business with him.

LAWRENCE CONDON

WEST SWANTON — Lawrence James Condon, 75, died Monday afternoon, Sept. 10, 2012, in the Northwestern Medical Center with family at his side.

Born in Bridport on April 12, 1937, he was the son of the late Lawrence Cook and Amy Edna (Huestis) Condon. Raised in Bridport, he was a graduate of Middlebury High School. He resided on Hog Island Road in West Swanton for nearly 28 years.

ANNIS “ANN” DAVIS

MIDDLEBURY — Annis O. (Bingham) “Ann” Davis, 87, of Middlebury died Sept. 11, 2012.

She was born July 8, 1925, the daughter of Edwin and Bernice (Delphia) Bingham.

THOMAS “NEIL” HUSK

FERRISBURGH — Thomas “Neil” Husk, 82, passed away Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at FAHC in Burlington following a tragic tractor accident on the farm.

He was born on June 20, 1930, in Ferrisburgh, the son of Ray and Caroline (Black) Husk.

HELEN NOLEN

BRIDPORT — Helen Ruth Nolen, 99, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at Helen Porter Health & Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

She was born in the Bronx, New York City, on June 8, 1913. She was the daughter of George and Jeanette (Wallace) Schaub. She was a permanent resident of Bridport since 2000, but owned her home there since 1935. In her earlier years she worked as a secretary for the state of New York. She also worked for many years for Helena Rubinstein Cosmetics Corp.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
