Anna Berry

MONKTON — Anna P. Berry, 79, died June 1, 2010, at the home of her granddaughter, Jessica Berry, in Monkton.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 10, at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Bristol. Burial will be in the Mount St. Joseph Cemetery in Bristol. There will be no public calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice Inc. P.O. Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.

She was born July 1, 1930, in West New York, N.J., the daughter of James and Julia Keating.

Grace Barberis

BRIDPORT — Grace Candace (Hawkins) Barberis, 77, died Saturday, June 12, 2010, at her home.

There will be no calling hours. 

Funeral services was conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, June 17, at the Congregational Church of Middlebury with the Rev. Andrew Nagy-Benson, pastor, officiating. A reception will follow in the church hall with burial to take place at Gage Cemetery in Ferrisburgh. 

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Congregational Church of Middlebury or to Addison County Humane Society.

Rosemary Petersen

MIDDLEBURY — Rosemary (Provencher) Petersen, 77, a longtime resident of Middlebury, died suddenly on Saturday morning, June 5, 2010, at Shard Villa in Salisbury.

A graveside service was held on Wednesday, June 9, in Holman Cemetery in Salisbury. The Rev. William Beaudin officiated.

Gifts in Rosemary’s memory may be made to Shard Villa, 1177 Shard Villa Road, Salisbury, VT 05769, or the Addison County Humane Society, 236 Boardman St., Middlebury, VT 05753.

Francette Paretti

MIDDLEBURY — Francette (Renavent) Paretti, 97, died on Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at The Lodge in Middlebury. At her side were her daughter, Lynne Smaldone, and her son, Michael Paretti.

Catherine Huften

MIDDLEBURY — Catherine T. Huften, 82, died Thursday, June 3, 2010, at Porter Hospital in Middlebury following a period of failing health.

A memorial service was conducted Tuesday, June 8, at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home in Middlebury, with the Rev. Brian O’Donnell, parochial vicar of St. Mary Church, officiating. Burial was in Bantam Cemetery, Bantam, Conn.

Nelson Hodder

FERRISBURGH — Nelson Hodder, 61, of Ferrisburgh, died May 26, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Cards and can be sent to the family at PO Box 161, Burlington VT 05402. Memorial contributions can be made towards his daughters’ education.

He was born Dec. 13, 1948, in Buffalo, N.Y., the son of Benjamin and Mary Hodder. He was raised in Buffalo, where he played ice hockey.

MIDDLEBURY — Dr. Alan R. Berens, 84, of Middlebury passed away on June 3, 2010.

An informal gathering to celebrate Al’s life will be held at The Lodge at Otter Creek on Tuesday, June 29, from 2 to 4 p.m. Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the Middlebury Volunteer Ambulance Association, South Street, Middlebury, VT 05753.

POULTNEY — Neil E. Martin, 81, died suddenly at his home in Poultney on Thursday, May 27, 2010.

Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday, June 1, at the United Methodist Church in Poultney with the Rev. David Adams, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors followed in Poultney Cemetery.

CHARLOTTE — Russell West passed away at home early Sunday, May 30, 2010, in the presence and care of his loving family.

There was a private graveside burial for family and relatives in Woodstock at the Riverside Cemetery on Friday, June 4, with a reception for friends and family in South Burlington, at the Lake-View House on Shelburne Road on Saturday, June 5.

Doris Trudo

SALISBURY — Doris Trudo, 83, died Saturday, May 29, 2010, surrounded by her loving family, at her home in Salisbury.

The graveside committal service and burial took place on Thursday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the family lot in West Salisbury Cemetery. The Rev. John McDonald and Mr. Bertram Coolidge co-officiated.

Memorial gifts in lieu of flowers may be made to The Arthritis Foundation, 6 Chenell Drive, Suite 260, Concord, NH 03301; or to a charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Miller & Ketcham Funeral Home in Brandon.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
