DANIEL DUBOIS

MIDDLEBURY — Daniel George Dubois, 32, died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.

He was born in Middlebury on Aug. 21, 1981. He was the son of Robert and Gail (Blair) Dubois. He grew up in Orwell where he received his early education and graduated from Fair Haven Union High School, class of 2000. He afterwards attended Plymouth State University for two years studying business and accounting.

LEILA JOSEPH

LINCOLN — Dr. Leila Joseph, 66, of Lincoln died suddenly Jan. 16, 2014.

She earned her bachelor’s degree at Sarah Lawrence, her master’s degree at Yale, and her doctorate at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. She worked as a teacher, a therapist, a caregiver, and a healer and a pillar of her community.

She has been laid to rest in her family burial plot in Valhalla, N.Y., and is survived by her sons, Benjamin and Jacob, and her grandson, Stephen Asher. Donations in her name are welcome to Sunray Meditation Society of Lincoln. ◊

ANTHONY T. WARNER

ORWELL — Anthony T. Warner, 60, of Orwell died unexpectedly Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at Porter Medical Center.

He was born Oct. 18, 1953, in New Haven, the son of the late George L. and Anna (Caputo) Warner. He attended local schools in the Vergennes/Ferrisburgh Area.

He was employed as a truck driver for Robinson Transportation in Middlebury. His relatives say he enjoyed fishing, working on cars, and spending time with his children and his family

MARIE GANSON

VERGENNES — Marie Sophie Frieda Paepke Ganson, 96, of Vergennes passed away to be with her heavenly father on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014.

She was born on Feb. 13, 1917, in Hamburg, Germany, the daughter of the late Otto Paepke and the late Frieda Freundt Paepke. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie L. Ganson; two sons, Wayne L. Ganson and Gerald L. Ganson; her brother, Otto Paepke; and her sister, Kitty Waldhauer.

NELLY HOFMANN

STARKSBORO — Nelly Hofmann, 85, died peacefully in her sleep at home in Crown Point, N.Y., on Jan. 29, 2014.

She was born on May 26, 1928, in Iberg, Switzerland, the daughter of Edwin and Maria Hofmann-Moreli, the fourth of six children. Her father was a forester and the family was raised on a small tree farm in Iberg.

DR. CHANDLER MURRAY

 

MANCHESTER/MIDDLEBURY — Dr. Chandler Shaw Murray, 94, formerly of Middlebury, died quietly at the Equinox Terrace in Manchester after a quick decline.

He was born April 23, 1919, in Providence, R.I., the only child of Walter J. and Laura (Davis) Murray (of Bakersfield, Vt.) On Aug. 3, 1946, he married Dorcas Mary Pinkerton of Milwaukee, Wis., who predeceased him in 2005.

ROBIN M. PIERCE

BRISTOL — Robin M. Pierce, 34, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born May 16, 1979, in Middlebury, the daughter of the late Charles Clark and her mother, Betty Booska.

Her family says she loved many things but the most loved were her three boys. She was a great friend to all and would go out of her way to help. She enjoyed fishing, camping and outdoor activities.

AARON WEEKS “BEAR” JOHNSON

BRISTOL — Aaron Weeks “Bear” Johnson, 38, of Bristol died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington following a short illness. He was born on Oct. 28, 1975, in Plattsburgh, N.Y., the son of Mayon C. and Rebecca (Dike) Johnson Jr.

He graduated from Mount Abraham Union High School and Vermont Technical College. He was employed at IBM.

SHARON LEGRESLEY COREY

BRISTOL — Sharon Legresley Corey left her loving family to be with the Lord the evening of Jan. 15, 2014. Sharon’s spirit departed under the watchful eyes of her loving family. Her passing was the culmination of a yearlong journey of determined work to cure her cancer.

Sharon was born in Rutland, Vermont, to William and Mary (Legresley) Corey. She was the second of six children. She grew up in Proctor, Vermont, graduated from Proctor High School in 1969, and attended the University of Vermont, graduating in 1973.

CHARLES KORAN

ORWELL — Charles Koran, 69, of Orwell died Jan. 14, 2014, after a long battle with ALS.

He was born Feb. 13, 1944, in Saratoga, N.Y.

He worked for three decades at Tubbs in Brandon. Friends say he was known for refinishing furniture and selling antiques.

He is survived by a sister, Peggy Stimpson of Naples, Fla.

A memorial service will be held at the Orwell Congregational Church in Orwell on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 11 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to the ALS Foundation, Northern New England Chapter.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
