Aline Douglas

BRANDON — After a long illness, Aline Douglas died on October 28, 2010. She was born on August 11, 1930, to Dominique and Leonie (Bercier) Boisvenue in Whiting, Vermont. She was educated in Whiting, Middlebury, and Brandon schools, graduating from Brandon High School in 1949. She married Raymond (Corky) Douglas on October 5, 1950, in Leicester, Vermont. Aline and Corky celebrated 60 years of marriage on October 5, 2010.
There will be no calling hours or services at her request.

Michael Lubinski

LEICESTER — Michael Earl Lubinski, 64, of Leicester died Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at the Rutland Regional Medical Center following a brief hard-fought battle with cancer.
The graveside committal service and burial, with military honors, will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. in the family lot at Brookside Cemetery in Leicester. Gary Stanley, a family friend, will officiate.
He was born in Middlebury on Feb. 3, 1946. He was the son of Stanley and Shirley (LaRock) Lubinski.

James Monzel

MONKTON — James Alan Monzel of Monkton died recently at his home.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 5, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church, 2894 Spear St., Charlotte. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Bristol. There will be no public calling hours.

Johanna Yancheson

BRIDPORT — Johanna Yancheson, 94, of Bridport died Oct 1, 2010, in Payson, Ariz., after complications from an unfortunate fall.
Her memorial service was held on the 16th of October 2010, by Steve Captain, who is a bishop in the LDS church in Mesa, Ariz.
Johanna was born in Scheveningen, the Netherlands, on June 29, 1916. She moved from the Netherlands in 1974 and settled in California, Vermont, Michigan, Utah and Arizona and finally back to Vermont.

Nancy Vanier

CORNWALL — Nancy A. Vanier, 63, of Cornwall, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 2010, at home following her courageous battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Middlebury, she was the daughter of Gerald and Pauline Bolduc.
A Mass of Christian burial was held Tuesday, Oct. 26, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment was in St. Genevieve’s Cemetery in Shoreham.
She was employed for 26 years at B.F. Goodrich in Vergennes.
She married Serge J. Vanier on July 23, 1966. They were married 44 years and had two daughters, Melissa and Stephanie.

Sherrill "Mac" McCarthy

WALTHAM — Retired Air Force Master Sgt. Sherrill E. “Mac” McCarty, 75, of Waltham died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.
Relatives and friends are invited to a memorial reception on Monday, Nov. 1, 2010, at the Middlebury American Legion, 49 Wilson Road, Middlebury, from 11:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. Graveside Masonic services with military honors will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Riverside Cemetery, River Road, New Haven.
Born Sept. 24, 1935, in Clinton, Tenn., he was the son of Marie McCarty.

Marie Mammen

LINCOLN — Marie Chrysanth Apostle Mammen, 87, of Lincoln, formerly of Indianapolis, Ind., died peacefully on Oct. 21, 2010.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, from 1-2 p.m. at Crown Hill Funeral Home, 700 West 38th St., Indianapolis, Ind. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Crown Hill Funeral Home, followed by interment at Crown Hill Cemetery.

Arletta Hallock

CHARLOTTE — Arletta (Sorrell) Hallock, 67, of Charlotte died Thursday, Oct. 21, 2010, at Starr Farm Nursing Home in Burlington.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, Oct. 27, at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Charlotte. Burial followed in Grandview Cemetery in Charlotte.
She was born Dec. 15, 1942, in Burlington, the son of Clarence and Helen (Bell) Sorrell.
She worked at Monkton Central School. She was a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church in Charlotte.

Sandra Grippin

NORTH FERRISBURGH — Sandra J. Grippin, daughter of James W. and P. Jane (Dibble) Flye, passed away at home Oct. 23, 2010, surrounded by her husband, family and beloved pets.
A celebration of Sandi’s life will be held at the United Methodist Church, Route 7, Ferrisburgh, on Nov. 13 at 1 p.m. A private burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Sandi was born in Danbury, Conn., grew up on the shores of Lake Candlewood in Connecticut and had an idyllic childhood cruising on her parents’ large cabin boat, playing ball, riding bikes and attending huge family picnics.

Donald Clark

PRESCOTT, Ariz. — Donald DeWitt Clark, 96, devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather peacefully passed away Oct. 23, 2010, in Prescott, Ariz. His family was at his bedside.
There will be a private, graveside service at Mountain View Cemetery, Prescott, officiated by Donald’s son Brian.
Donald, one of three sons, was born at home on the family farm, March 31, 1914, to John and Belle Clark in Waltham, Vt.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
