JUSTINE WAGNER

ADDISON — Justine R. Wagner, 97, died Oct. 26, 2012, at the Mountain View Center in Rutland.

Born in Manchester, N.H., on Sept. 19, 1915, she was the daughter of Julien and Esther (Legendre) Richard.

After retiring in1971 as deputy sheriff at the Hillsborough County jail, her family says she spent 20 years in Jensen Beach, Fla., enjoying fishing in the sun, and fun-filled activities, especially participating in song-fests and musicals at the Nettles Island Resort.

BARBARA GAY

BRISTOL — Barbara Squier Gay of Bristol died on Nov. 1, 2012, in Williston. She was born in Holyoke, Mass., on Dec. 20, 1914, the daughter of George and Ethel Squier.

She was a graduate of Newton (Mass.) High School, Colby Junior College (now Colby-Sawyer) and the Katherine Gibbs School. She worked for five years at a leading Boston law firm before moving to Vermont in 1941.

She was predeceased by her husband, L. Stearns Gay Jr. They resided in Cavendish, Ludlow, Bristol and Lincoln before his passing in 1981.

RODNEY MCKINNON

HINESBURG — Rodney McKinnon of Hinesburg passed away on Oct. 30 at Fletcher Allen Hospital, following a brief illness surrounded by his family.

Rod is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Elizabeth; daughters Gayle and her husband Rod Alexander of Burlington and Glynda and her partner David Scheuer of Charlotte; grandchildren Alexa, Alan and David Schmidt, all of Vermont; and nieces Kelly McKinnon and Macky McKinnon Gains and her two children.

He was predeceased by his parents, Sam and Irene McKinnon, and a brother, Tom McKinnon.

LOUIS B. GUERRETTE

SARASOTA, Fla. — Louis B. Guerrette, 88, of Sarasota, Fla., passed away on Oct. 30, 2012, surrounded with love and his family by his side.

He was born in Lewiston, Maine, on May 9, 1924, the eldest son of Albert and Sophie (Dubois) Guerrette.

ALICE SCOVILLE BARRY

ITHACA, N.Y. — Alice Trumbull Scoville was born on July 3, 1911, in Rosemont, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Katharine Gallaudet Trumbull Scoville and Samuel Scoville, Jr., a lawyer and author. Alice graduated from The Shipley School, in 1929, and from Vassar College in 1933. She married Stuyvesant (Peter) Barry in 1935, and the two of them lived in Boston and then New York, while Peter practiced law.

BEVERLEY BOSS

MIDDLEBURY — Beverley M. Boss, 88, of Middlebury, died Oct. 20, 2012. She was born in Toronto, Ontario, on Dec. 11, 1923, the daughter of W.J. and Bonnie (Bonnell) Bixel. 

On Feb. 14, 1952, she married Ralph F. Boss in St. John’s, Newfoundland, Canada.

She is survived by her husband, Ralph; daughter Caroline and husband, Thomas Dougherty, of Phoenix, Ariz.; son Carl and wife, Joanne Holden, of Bristol; and three grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her sister, Nancy; her parents; and daughter Laura J. Murray.

ANTHONY DENIS

BRISTOL — Anthony Jules Denis, 62, died Oct. 29, 2012, at Fletcher Allen Health Care after a battle with lung cancer.

He was born March 19, 1950, in Middlebury, the son of Jules and Barbara Denis.

He lived most of his life and went to school in Addison County. He worked at Casella’s for several years.

PETER DEVRIES

ADDISON — Peter DeVries, 73, a longtime resident of Addison, went to be with the Lord Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at Our House Residential Care Home, Rutland, following a long illness.

Born in Hollum, the Netherlands, July 15, 1939, he was the son of the late Samuel and Grace (Vanhuizen) DeVries.

Peter and his wife Linda moved here in 1969 from Middletown, N.Y., and have operated DeVries Dairydale Farm for many years. The family continues to operate the farm.

AMY GOSSELIN

MIDDLEBURY — Amy Louise Gosselin, 55, died Oct. 23, 2012, at her home in Middlebury.

She was born in Middlebury on Nov. 9, 1956. She was the daughter of Walter and Freda (Jabot) Beeman. She grew up in Orwell where she received her early education.

NORTHAMPTON, Pa. — Marion (Turner) Keeler, 87, formerly of Neffs, Pa., died Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at Sacred Heart Senior Living by the Creek, Northampton, Pa. She was the wife of the late Harold E. Keeler.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
