DONALD A. GEBO SR.

BRISTOL — Donald A. Gebo Sr., 75, of Bristol and Lake Placid, Fla., died on Dec. 2, 2013. Born on Aug. 1, 1938, in Monkton, he was the son of the late Andrew Gebo and Margaret Provoncha Gebo.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, family barbeques, and his little dog Emily and long rides in the country, especially around the islands. He and his wife, Nancy, explored much of New England and enjoyed touring Florida during their winters, which led them to move to Lake Placid in 2008.

ELEANOR “NELLIE” MORISON

CORNWALL — Eleanor Truax “Nellie” Morison, 75, died at home in Cornwall Dec. 15 after a long battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her two sons, her brother, and two sisters-in-law.

CLAIRE DUMAS SCRIBNER

BRISTOL — Claire Dumas Scribner passed away on December 12, 2013 after a brief illness at Fletcher Allen Health Care.

Claire was born on February 12, 1947, to Max and Mary (Lana) Dumas of Bristol, VT. She attended Bristol High School and was a lifelong member of the St. Ambrose Catholic Community. She taught religious education classes and served on parish committees for decades. Claire worked as a Lister and assistant to the Town Clerk for several years.

LYNN C. HUESTIS

COLCHESTER — Lynn C. Huestis, 62, died peacefully surrounded by his family on Dec. 17, 2013.

He was born Nov. 14, 1951, in Middlebury, the son of Faith (Bingham) and Howard I. Huestis. He was raised in Bridport, graduated from Middlebury Union High School, and attended the University of Vermont. He joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1970 and served until 1976. At the time of his death, he was a systems analyst at GE Healthcare (formerly IDX) where he had worked for more than 20 years.

GENE OLIVER

BRIDPORT — Gene Alan Oliver, 46, passed away as the result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident on Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2013.

Gene was born on Aug. 27, 1967, to Dexter and Ruth (Denett) Oliver at Porter Hospital in Middlebury. 

He grew up in Bridport, attending Bridport Central School and the Patricia Hannaford Career Center and was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School, class of 1985.

He was employed as a machinist at Velan Valve in Williston for over 20 years.

RUTH BREEN

GOSHEN — Ruth Barber Breen, age 97, of Goshen, Vt., formerly of Charleston, S.C., and Hartford, Conn., died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at her home in Goshen.

Mrs. Breen was born in East Windsor, Conn., on July 12, 1916. She was the daughter of Howard and Harriett (Osborne) Barber. She attended UConn and graduated from Morse College. Mrs. Breen was employed by Connecticut Bank and Trust in Hartford, as their first female outside Sales Rep for Master Card. Later, Ruth and husband Joe (“JQ”) entered the hospitality business on Cape Cod and New Jersey.

H. RONALD CLINE

MIDDLEBURY — H. Ronald Cline died peacefully on Tuesday, Dec. 3, at his home at The Lodge at Otter Creek in Middlebury, just seven months after the loss of Eleanor, his life partner of 41 years. Since her passing, he was supported by great friend and caregiver Dee White and Eleanor’s son David.

Ron was born in 1927 in Mansfield, Ohio, the son of Clarence R. Cline and Lena (Mast) Cline. He graduated from Ontario High School and Ashland College, both in Ohio.

MATTHEW MCDONOUGH

LEICESTER — Matthew Charles McDonough, 45, died Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Hanover, N.H.

He was born in Rutland on April 19, 1968. He was the son of John and Heather (French) McDonough. He grew up in Leicester where he received his early education. He graduated from Otter Valley Union High School, class of 1986.

LEONEL P. “ LEO” YANDOW

BURLINGTON — Leonel P. “Leo” Yandow, 77, died at the Burlington Health & Rehabilitation Center on Dec. 8, 2013, from complications of a recent illness. He was born in North Ferrisburgh on June 8, 1936, son of Clifford and Yvonne (Leclaire) Yandow.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
