CHARLES MALZAC

EAST MIDDLEBURY — Charles E. Malzac, 79, died Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013, at The Pines of Rutland.

Born Jan. 20, 1934, in New Haven, he was the son of the late Joseph N. and Nora (James) Malzac.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army, receiving two Purple Hearts during his service in the Korean War. 

During his youth he was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America.

Following his disability he was self-employed at various jobs in the local area.

GERARD "JERRY" TRUDEAU

MIDDLEBURY — Gerard (Jerry) Francis Trudeau, 83, a life-long resident of Middlebury, passed away in comfort with his family present on Sept. 8, 2013.

Gerard was born Aug. 11, 1930, in Hartland, VT, son of Paul L. Trudeau and Cornelia H. Trudeau (Herrington).

DANIEL REYNOLDS

BRIDPORT — Daniel Walter Reynolds, 36, died accidentally in Bridport on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013.

Born in Wakefield, R.I., Nov. 22, 1976, he is the son of Richard H. and Joanne C. (Kenney) Reynolds.

Dan was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School, class of 1994. Following high school he attended a technical school for mechanics in Denver, Colo.

He was employed by Cabot Agrimark Inc. of Middlebury and had previously been employed by the Audet family’s Blue Spruce Farm and Hawk Creek Fence Co.

WARREN DAVIS JR.

MIDDLEBURY — Warren W. Davis Jr., 83, died at his home in Middlebury on Sept. 11, 2013, exactly one year after his beloved wife, Ann. He was born Oct. 19, 1929, the son of Warren and Rena (Shackett) Davis Sr.

Junior, as he was called, attended school in Middlebury. He lived most of his life on their farm on East Munger Street in Middlebury.

He was an avid hunter and a licensed gunsmith. His family says many Addison County hunters have had ammunition loaded by him.

LAWRENCE "TOT" FARR

BENNINGTON — Lawrence I. “Tot” Farr, 79, of Bennington died peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at his residence following a long illness.

He was born in the family farmhouse on Elder Road in Lincoln on Nov. 8, 1933. At the age of one he moved to Bristol when his parents, Harvey and Pauline Farr, purchased a farm there. He received his education in the Bristol schools where he played both basketball and baseball on the high school teams.

RICHARD K. ADAMS

VERGENNES — Richard K. Adams died peacefully Friday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury.

He was born Aug. 23, 1938, at the home of his parents, Lester and Beth (Davis) Adams Sr.

YVONNE S. LABERGE

FERRISBURGH — Yvonne S. Laberge, 58, died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2013, at home with her close family by her side. Yvonne bravely fought cancer for 23 years with a determination that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She was born May 23, 1955, in Middlebury, the daughter of Calvin Hawkins and Ernestine Cloe Hawkins. She grew up on the family farm where she developed a love of the outdoors, which would follow her the rest of her life.

KNIGHT WASHBURN

ADDISON — Knight Hopkins Washburn, 85, of Addison, died Aug. 27, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

He was born on June 2, 1928, to Walter B.C. and Helen Mathews Washburn in Providence, R.I. His childhood and youth were spent in Larchmont, N.Y., and on the shores of Lake Champlain.

RAYMOND LEHTOLA

HUBBARDTON — Raymond Lehtola, also known as Ray-Ray to his friends, passed away on September 4, 2013, to the sounds of his favorite music.

Raymond was born on December 8, 1961, and lived for many years in National City, Calif., with his grandparents Fred and Jean Batterley and his parents June and Tom Bohler. He moved to Vermont with his family in 2008. For the past four years, he lived with his caregivers Claire and Jerry Delancey on Echo Lake.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
