William Patrick Holdman Jr.

MIDDLEBURY — William Patrick Holdman Jr., 85, died Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, in Middlebury.

Mr. Holdman was born May 7, 1926, in Chelsea, Mass. He was the son of William P. and Olivia (Dearborn) Holdman Sr. After his high school education, he joined the U.S. Navy at age 17 and served on a destroyer, the USS Winslow, in the South Pacific. Following his honorable discharge in 1947 he returned home and earned his degree from the University of Massachusetts.

Edgar J. Lamoureux II

ORWELL — Edgar J. Lamoureux II, 44, of Orwell died unexpectedly Sunday morning, Sept. 25, 2011, at Porter Medical Center.

Born in Middlebury July 20, 1967, he was the son of Edgar J. and Gloria (Durkee) Lamoureux.

He was a graduate of Middlebury Union High School, class of 1985, where he played varsity football. His family says he enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and camping, and was an avid monster truck enthusiast and New England Patriots fan.   

He married his wife, Arlene (Lovely) Lamoureux, in Shoreham on July 10, 1999.

Marion E. (Mills) Philipsen

BRANDON/MORRISVILLE — Marion E. (Mills) Philipsen, 95, formerly of Brandon, died peacefully at The Manor in Morrisville on Sept. 23, 2011.

She was born in Pittsford on March 23, 1916, the daughter of Albert and Winnie (Jones) Mills. She graduated from Pittsford High School in 1934 and then attended the University of Vermont.

She married Dr. William H. (Bill) Philipsen DVM on July 24, 1937, and resided in Brandon until his death at age 94 on Nov. 8, 2003.

Dana Increase Robinson

PORTLAND, Maine — Dana Increase Robinson, 88, of Concord, N.H., died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.

Born in Tientsin, China, the son of missionary parents Arthur G. and Marian R. Robinson, he lived abroad for nearly 15 years, growing up with his two sisters, Elizabeth and Marianne, and brother David.

He graduated from Colby College, a member of Delta Kappa Epsilon.

James Weldon

MIDDLEBURY — James Weldon, age 86, died on Sept. 24, 2011, at his home in Middlebury surrounded by his loving family.

He was born March 4, 1925, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Thomas and Nora (Barry) Weldon. He graduated from Brooklyn Technical High School in 1943. He was an avid reader and was a self-educated man. He loved history and working with this hands. He and his wife traveled extensively to Europe especially enjoying his trip to Ireland, home of his ancestors.

Robert O. “Bob” Willey Sr.

ROCKFORD, Ill. — Robert O. “Bob” Willey Sr., 89, of Rockford died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, in Alden Alma Nelson Sub Acute in Rockford.

He was born in Fresno, Calif., the son of Raymond C. and Elizabeth (O’Bryan) Willey. He spent his childhood in Vermont, served in the Army Air Corps during World War II, and then went back to Vermont to farm for 15 years. He was also a town selectman for many years in Bristol, Vt. He then moved to Rockford in 1965, becoming a machinist at Mattison Machine Works until his retirement.

Bernard P. Andrews

VERGENNES — Bernard P. Andrews, 84, died at his home with his loving family with him on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011.

He was born on Aug. 28, 1927. He was the son of Arthur and Christie (Garneau) Andrews. He grew up on the family farm in Addison and attended schools in Addison and Vergennes.

Ruth Morse Taylor

ESSEX JUNCTION — Ruth Morse Taylor, 72, of Essex Junction died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington.

She was born May 12, 1939, in Burlington to Julius and Thelma (Irish) Morse. She graduated from Bristol High School in Bristol in 1957 and the University of Vermont School of Dental Hygiene in 1959, and later earned her bachelor’s degree from Johnson State College in 1992.

Paul B. Sisters

FERRISBURGH — Paul B. Sisters, 91, passed away quietly in his sleep Thursday, Sept. 15, 2011, at Vergennes Residential Care Home in Vergennes.

He was born April 12, 1920, in Bristol, the son of Henry Joseph and Grace L. (Shattuck) Sisters.

Elaine Moulton

MIDDLEBURY — Elaine Ann Moulton, 66, a former resident of Salisbury and Mineville, N.Y., died at her home in Middlebury Monday, Sept. 19, 2011.

Born in Burlington June 26, 1945, she was the daughter of Arthur L. and Grace C. (Cassidy) King.

She was a homemaker described by her family as very talented at crocheting and knitting and very creative in making new patterns.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
