Lucile Tierney

MIDDLEBURY — Lucile Tierney passed away on Nov. 16, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Lucile was born Aug. 17, 1921, the daughter of Noah and Leah (Highter) Duclos in Lincoln.
She attended Bristol High School and graduated in 1939. She married Milan Tierney on Sept. 15, 1941, at St. Ambrose Church in Bristol. They resided in Bristol, Conn., until 1952 when they moved to Bristol, Vt.
Lucile worked at the New England Telephone Office as a telephone operator in the 1950s. She then worked at Van Raalte for many years.

Harry Turner

LANESBORO, Mass. — Harry William Turner, 61, of Lanesboro passed Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2010, at his home.
A memorial service was held Thursday, Nov. 18, at 11 a.m. at Middlebury United Methodist Church in Middlebury, Vt.
He was born in Middlebury, Vt., on July 7, 1949, son of the late Lloyd Turner and Ocrena (Youtt) Turner.
He graduated from Mepham High School in Bellmore, N.Y., in 1967. He received his bachelor’s degree from Hofstra University in 1972.

Mae Grant Everest

NEW HAVEN — Mae Grant Everest, 89, of New Haven died in her sleep at the Laberge Care Home in Vergennes on Nov. 9, 2010. She was predeceased by her husband of 67 years, Doug Everest.
A memorial service was held at the New Haven Congregational Church on Saturday, Nov. 13.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mae’s memory maybe made to the Ladies Union, New Haven Congregational Church, New Haven, VT 05472.

Mary "Mae" Bergeron

MIDDLEBURY — Mary “Mae” Bergeron, 86, died Thursday, Nov. 4, 2010, at the Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center following a long illness with Alzheimer’s disease.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Nov. 10 at the Ready Funeral Home in Burlington, with burial following in Lakeview Cemetery.
She was born on July 31, 1924, in Upper Lands County, Derry, Ireland, the daughter of Thomas and Selina (Cassidy) Anderson. She was married to Donald Bergeron, who predeceased her in 1999.

Thomas "Pro" Billings

CORNWALL — Thomas “Pro” Billings, 66, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at his home in Cornwall from a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the American Legion in Middlebury on Nov. 28, 2010, at 11 a.m. for a time of celebration and remembrance.
He worked for 30 years at Standard Register and was also employed at Middlebury College for six years.

Leo Jerome Connor Sr.

BRIDPORT — Leo Jerome Connor Sr. of Bridport died Nov. 6, 2010.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Middlebury. The Rev. William Beaudin officiated. Burial followed in St. Genevieve’s Cemetery in Shoreham.
Leo was born Nov. 27, 1915, in Smithfield, R.I., son of John Connor and Katherine Grady. He graduated from LaSalle Academy in Providence, R.I., and from Providence College.

John R. Ferguson

STOWE — John R. Ferguson, 51, of Stowe, died Monday, Nov. 8, 2010, at Copley Hospital in Morrisville, with his parents by his side.
A funeral service was held at 1 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at the Stowe Community Church, with interment in the Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe.
He was born in Elmer, N.J., Feb. 2, 1959, the son of Robert and Diane (Tiedeman) Ferguson. He was a 1977 graduate of Longmeadow High School in Longmeadow, Mass. He then earned a BA degree, with honors, from Middlebury College in 1981.

Joseph Goward

PANTON — Joseph George Goward, 91, died Sunday, Nov. 7, 2010, at his home in Panton with his devoted wife by his side.
A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery in West Addison.
He was born on Feb. 28, 1919, in Bayside, N.Y., the son of Sophie Dul Goward and John Goward. He was the eldest of four children.

Herbert Kinne

VERGENNES/NEWPORT — Herbert A. Kinne, 86, died Sunday, Oct. 24, 2010, at his home in Vergennes.
There will be no funeral services. Memorial contributions may be made to Addison County Home Health & Hospice, PO Box 754, Middlebury, VT 05753.
He was born July 3, 1924, in Newport, the son of Amasa and Elsie Bartlett Kinne.
He graduated from Newport Center High School. He served in the US Navy during World War II from April 29, 1943, to April 6, 1946, as an aviation radioman third class.
He was employed at New England Telephone for 36 years.

Winifred Wolcott

BRISTOL — Winifred Wolcott, formerly of Middlebury, died Friday, Nov. 5, 2010, in Bristol, at the age of 92.
At her request, there were no calling hours and a private graveside service was held on Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Congregational Church Cemetery in Cornwall.
She was born in Cornwall on Aug. 27, 1918, to Loyal and Anna (Ringey) Towle. She grew up in Cornwall and graduated from Middlebury High School. She was sometimes called Winnie, but was more affectionately and commonly known as Aunt Pete to her family and friends, which came from a childhood nickname.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
