Alice Degon

BRANDON — Alice Marie Degon, 73, of Brandon died Friday, June 22, 2012, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Canton, N.Y., on Dec. 11, 1938. She grew up in Canton, where she received her education in local schools. She lived most of her adult life in the Messina, N.Y., area. She moved to Vermont in 2004 to be close to her daughter and grandchildren. Her family says she enjoyed country music, shopping, lawn sales and her cat, Bubby.

Surviving are her daughter, Michele Harrigan and her husband Robert, and their two children, all of Orwell.

Jeannie Eisler

BRANDON— Jeannie Ann Eisler, 70, of Brandon died Thursday, June 14, 2012, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Jamaica Plain, Mass., on June 17, 1941. She was the daughter of Edward and Ruth (Weinle) Waldsmith. She grew up in the Boston area and graduated from Brighton (Mass.) High School, class of 1959.

Ellen Flanagan

BURLINGTON — Ellen M. Flanagan of Burlington, 57, died on June 19, 2012, with her good friend Sherry by her side, after a short illness.

She was born June 21, 1954, in Salem, Mass., the daughter of Arthur and Rita (Kingsley) Flanagan. She graduated from Vergennes Union High School and then the University of Vermont with a bachelor of science in nursing.

She worked at Fletcher Allen Health Care for many years and as director of nursing at Porter Hospital as well as at Green Mountain Health Care and most recently for the Visiting Nurse Association.

Mabel Flanagan

MIDDLEBURY — A burial service for Mabel “Sue” Flanagan of Middlebury, who died on Dec. 19, 2011, at the age of 93, will be held at Case Street Cemetery in Middlebury on July 7, 2012, at 11 a.m.

Family and friends are invited to a gathering after the service at 1299 Quarry Road, Middlebury.

Lillian Harris

FERRISBURGH — Lillian S. Harris, 95, died Sunday, June 24, 2012, at Vergennes Residential Care Home in Vergennes.

She was born July 15, 1916, in Connecticut, the daughter of Cleveland and Susan Rosemand Frost.

She was a member of North Ferrisburgh Methodist Church, and the Forest and Field Club.

Sandra LaFramboise

SHOREHAM — Sandra J. LaFramboise, 64, of Shoreham died June 7, 2012, following a short illness.

She was born to the late Michael and Dorothy (Gould) Eskra in Brattleboro on Jan. 18, 1947.

She is survived by her son, Ulrick LaFramboise of Shoreham, her sister Marian and her husband James Walker of Bridport, and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her son Robin; her twin sister, Sally; and her brother, Michael.

Per her wishes, there will be no service and her son will scatter her ashes at a later date.

PITTSFORD — Patricia Mae Kimball Piper, 79, of Pittsford, a one-time resident of Middlebury, died Saturday, June 23, 2012, peacefully at home in loving arms.

DAYTON, Ohio — Ron E. Rink, a 30-year resident of Addison County, died peacefully at his home in Dayton, Ohio, on June 17, 2012. He was born in Detroit, Michigan, January 28, 1934.

James Washburn

BRISTOL — James Fred Washburn, 67, died Tuesday, June 26, 2012, at his home in Bristol.

He was born Oct. 22, 1944, in Bethel, the son of Randall and Addie Luce Washburn.

He served in the U.S. Army. He worked as a master plumber for several years. His family says he enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

He is survived by his wife, Nana Washburn of Bristol; a daughter, Paulita Washburn and companion Tom Everest of Bristol; two grandsons; two sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; and several cousins.

He was predeceased by a sister.

Mary Fonda

BENSON — Mary Elizabeth Fonda, 100, of Benson died Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Rutland Health & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Leicester on Sept. 25, 1911. She was the daughter of Charles and Caroline (LaDam) Johnson. She received her early education in Leicester schools and graduated from Brandon High School, class of 1928.

She worked most of her life as a seamstress in the garment district in New York City and later Pennsylvania. She retired from Playtex Corp. She moved back to Vermont to be near family in 2009.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
