RUTH RIVERS

BRISTOL — Ruth N. (Tatro) Rivers, 90, a longtime resident of Bristol and New Haven, died May 17, 2013, in Middlebury.

She was born in Bristol, daughter of William J. and Sarah E. (Luufkin) Tatro, on May 3, 1923.

She was employed for 10 years by Van Raalte Co. as a seamstress, then supervisor and in 1963 was assistant floor lady. She worked several years at Drake and Smith Co.

She was a den mother in the Cub Scouts in New Haven in the 1950s. She also taught Sunday school in New Haven and Lincoln for many years.

ELLA MAY LACEY

MIDDLEBURY — Graveside services for Ella May Lacey, who died March 12, 2013, in Freeport, Maine, will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2013, at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Middlebury, with the Rev. William R. Beaudin, pastor of St. Mary’s Church, officiating.

VIRGINIA LAZARUS

RIPTON — An interment service for Virginia Lazarus, 60, of Ripton, who died Dec. 22, 2012, will be held on May 25, 2013, at noon at Galvin Cemetery, Ripton (2 miles east of the town, just before Middlebury College’s Bread Loaf campus). Friends and neighbors are invited to join to pay their respects.

LEE MAIDEN JR.

MIDDLEBURY — Lee A. Maiden Jr., 89, a onetime resident of Middlebury, died March 11, 2013, in Fort Myers, Fla. He was a longtime employee and branch manager of Boyertown Casket Company.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 18, 2013, at Sanderson-Ducharme Funeral Home, 117 South Main St., Middlebury. Burial will follow with military honors at Middlebury Cemetery.

LEONARD PEARSON

BRANDON— Leonard “Lenny” Guilford Pearson, 70, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at his home in Brandon.

He was born in Williston on July 11, 1942. He was the son of Thomas and Anna (Shonio) Pearson Sr. He grew up in Williston where he received his education in local schools. He worked on several area farms in Williston and Middlesex in his earlier years. He entered the United States Army in January 1962 and served in Europe. Following his honorable discharge he returned to Vermont and made his home in Montpelier.

ELIZABETH PENO

VERGENNES — Elizabeth Agnes Peno, 79, of Vergennes died peacefully on Monday, April 29, 2013, at The Hospice of Wake County, N.C. Betty, as she was known to everyone, moved to Raleigh, N.C., in July 2012 from Vergennes, where she and Reginald L. Peno (John), her husband of 61 years, lived for 25 years.

PHILOMENA WIECHNIAK

BRANDON — Philomena “Phyllis” Wiechniak, 97, of Brandon died Monday, May 13, 2013, at Rutland Health & Rehabilitation Center in Rutland.

She was born in Worcester, Mass., on May 22, 1915. She was the daughter of Giuseppe and Lucia (Cancella) Mancinni. She grew up in Worcester where she received her early education. She was a housewife, homemaker and mother.

PRISCILLA DAHLIN

NEWFANE — Priscilla G. Dahlin, 83, of Newfane, died peacefully on Sunday, May 5, with family by her side.

She was born on July 12, 1929, in New Hampton, N.H. She moved to Middlebury in 1942 and attended Middlebury High School where she graduated in 1947 as class salutatorian.

PATRICIA PHILLIPS

SAN LORENZO, N.M. — Patricia Ann “Pat” Phillips, 68, a resident of San Lorenzo, N.M., died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at her residence.

She was born May 29, 1944, in Middlebury, Vt., to Kenneth Caul and Mary Fortier. She served her country during the Vietnam era as a major in the U.S. Army as a Medical Corps technician.

She is survived by her loving husband, Lawrence “Larry” Phillips of San Lorenzo, and one son, Wayne Burton of Terre Haute, Ind.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

RUTH TROMBLEY

BRISTOL — Ruth Murphy Trombley, 76, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 8, 2013. Born Ruth Ann Murphy on Oct. 7, 1936, to Harry and Bertha Murphy, she grew up in Bristol and attended Bristol High School, where she met her husband, Harold Norton Trombley. Together they raised four wonderful, rowdy boys — Michael, Jeffrey, Matthew and Christopher — who all inherited their parents’ strong values, charisma, and senses of humor.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
