Elinor Sullivan Adams

 

MIDDLEBURY — Elinor Sullivan Adams died May 19, 2011, at the age of 90 at Helen Porter Healthcare & Rehabilitation Center, Middlebury. She wrote the following about her life:

I was born on the Sullivan farm in Panton on November 2, 1920. Four generations of Sullivans were living in the farmhouse at that time — Great Grandfather Michael Sullivan, Grandfather Patrick Sullivan, my mother and father, Bill and Viva Russett Sullivan, me and then my brother Kenneth two years later. We lived in the Panton-Vergennes area for the rest of our lives.

Janet S. Burachowski

 

WILLISTON — Janet S. Burachowski, 70, died Friday May 20, 2011, at Cathy Forand’s house in Bristol.

She was born April 20, 1941, in Frankfort, Ind., the daughter of James and Lucy Henning.

She had a beauty salon for 22 years in Lafayette, Ind. She married Harry Spreer, who predeceased her in 1996. She moved to Vermont to live with her daughter and married Robert Burachowski in 2000.

Stephen D. Clark

 

MONKTON — There will be a gathering to celebrate the memory of Stephen D. Clark of Monkton, who died March 13, on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at 4 p.m. on the first fairway of his beloved Basin Harbor Club.

Rebecca (Hatstat-Ash) Gibbs

 

BRISTOL — Rebecca (Hatstat-Ash) Gibbs passed away on Monday, May 23, from ovarian cancer.

Becky was born on August 4, 1962, in Worcester, Mass., the daughter of Mary Lu (Page) and the late Ralph C. Hatstat II. She grew up in New Haven and graduated from Mount Abraham UHS in 1980. She attended Burlington College and traveled throughout the U.S. and to France and Switzerland, the last of these fulfilling the “bucket list” she made as a teen.

Rev. Paul A. Jackson

 

LEICESTER — The Rev. Paul A. Jackson, 77, died at his home in Leicester on Monday morning, May 23, 2011, with his beloved family at his side.

He was born on Dec. 13, 1933, in Allagash, Maine, the son of Stanley J. and Mary McBreitry Jackson, and grew up in rural Maine, graduating from the Bangor High School in 1954. On Jan. 8, 1955, he married Joyce Lorraine Merrill in Bangor, Maine .

George Trimble Murdoch II

 

MIDDLEBURY — George Trimble Murdoch II died quietly on May 22 with his wife and children by his side. Named after his grandfather, a mining engineer from Forest Hills, CA, who later became treasurer of the Witherbee Sherman Company in Port Henry, N.Y.

MIDDLEBURY — The graveside committal service and burial with full military honors for James Paul Muzaca, 85, who died March 26, 2011, was held Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the family lot in St Mary’s Cemetery, Middlebury.

The Rev. William Beaudin, pastor of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, officiated.

Florence A. Russell

 

BRANDON — Florence A. Russell, 98, of Brandon died May 21, 2011, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born July 6, 1912, in Salisbury, the daughter of Manley and Mabel English Grace, and lived all of her life in Vermont

She married Harold P. Russell on Sept. 2, 1934, in Brandon and was a homemaker. Her family says she enjoyed arts and crafts, playing word puzzles and card games, and even playing baseball with her grandchildren into her 90s.

MIDDLEBURY/WHITTIER, Calif./ — The funeral service and burial for Katherine Atherton, 82, who died Feb. 3, 2011, at her home in Whittier, Calif., will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2011, at 11 a.m. in St. Mary’s Church in Middlebury. Burial will follow in Prospect Cemetery, East Middlebury.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
