CATHRYN O'MEARA

MIDDLEBURY — Cathryn (Clark) O’Meara, 88, went into the arms of the Lord on Jan. 18, 2013. Born Dec. 23, 1924, at home in Waits River, Vt.; daughter of Glenn C. Clark and Lola M. Clark. She attended grade school in Waits River, graduated from Bradford Academy, Bradford, Vt., now Oxbow H.S. and Lyndon Normal School, now Lyndon State. She had a career in banking, working in Bradford, Barre, Montpelier and retired from the Chittenden Bank in Middlebury, now Peoples United Bank.

ELIZABETH RAHMEL

MIDDLEBURY — Elizabeth D. “Betty” Rahmel, 92, of Middlebury died Jan. 16, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation in Middlebury.

She was born on June 6, 1920, in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late Richard and Kathryn Kuenster. She graduated college with a bachelor’s degree and worked as a ballet teacher and eventually as a elementary teacher for the deaf for the state of Illinois. In 1942 she married James Daly Sr. He died in 1965 She married Arnold Rahmel in 1971. He died in 2005.

CARRIE NIGRO

MERIDEN, Conn. — Carrie (Carpenter) Benoit Nigro, 88, of Meriden, wife of Carmelo J. Nigro and of the late Gene V. Benoit, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, with her loving family at her bedside at MidState Medical Center after a brief illness.

Born in Addison, Vt., on Dec. 14, 1924, she was the daughter of Merton and Madge (Harrington) Carpenter. She resided in Addison and graduated from Vergennes High School, class of 1942.

BRISTOL — Jane Howard, 84, died at home on Jan. 12, 2013. She resided with Bob and Mary Bingham of Bristol, for the past 26 years and was a beloved member of the family.

MURDALE LEYSATH

BRANDON — The Rev. Dr. Murdale C. Leysath, 88, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013, at her home in Brandon. She passed away peacefully and comfortably in her sleep following an extended period of declining health.

RAY PINSON

BRANDON —Ray Edward Pinson, 52, of Brandon died Friday, Jan. 11, 2013, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

He was born in Denver, Colo., on Jan. 21, 1960. He was the son of Edward and Beulah (Carver) Pinson. He grew up in Wheat Ridge, Colo., where he received his early education. He graduated from Wheat Ridge High School, class of 1978. He afterwards graduated from Denver Automotive and Diesel College, class of 1980.

He served in the United States Army for two years. Following his honorable discharge he married Jane Mills on July 16, 1983, in Middlebury.

GLADYS QUESNEL

MIDDLEBURY — Gladys J. “Cidy” Quesnel, 88, a lifelong Middlebury resident, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington.

Born in Middlebury March 2, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Dorothy (Cartmell) Murray.

“Cidy” was a graduate of Middlebury High School, class of 1942. She and her husband Alphonse, who died September 21, 1984, owned and operated Middlebury State Airport and Dustair Inc. for  over 40 years.

VERGENNES — A Celebration of Life Mass for Blanche Santaniello, who died Dec. 25, 2012, will be held at St. Peter’s Church in Vergennes on Saturday, Jan. 26, 2013, at 11 a.m.

FERRISBURGH — Judith (Judi) N. Wilson, 72, passed away Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, in her Mile Point home. The wife of William B. (Bill) Wilson for 53 years, she was born May 15, 1940, the daughter of Hugh and Helen Noles of Sarasota, Fla.

CONSTANCE HAMNER

KILLINGWORTH, Conn. — Constance “Connie” (Lattrell) Hamner, 78, of Killingworth, Conn., died peacefully on Jan. 8, 2013, at Hartford Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 20, 1933, in Bristol, Vt.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
