JUDY ANN MARSHALL

MIDDLEBURY — Judy Ann Marshall passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, after a nearly yearlong battle with lung cancer, which she fought bravely.

BEULAH TORIAN

MIDDLEBURY — The Spirit we called Beulah E. Torian, after 93 years left her body, Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center where she had resided for the past year.

Born Sept. 20, 1920, in Montpelier, Idaho, she was the daughter of the late P.B. Edson Skiff and Helen M. (Gould) Skiff. 

Beulah was a graduate of Washington High School, Los Angeles, Calif., and Santa Barbara Teachers College, class of 1942. She lovingly shared her knowledge at Pacific Ackworth Friends School for many of her years spent as a teacher.

ELIZABETH WILCOX

SHOREHAM — Elizabeth G. Wilcox, 88, formerly of Shoreham, died Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2013, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center after a brief Illness.

She was born Dec. 14, 1925, in Shoreham, the daughter of the late Arthur and Edith (Mahue) Gregoire. She was a graduate of Shoreham High School.

She worked for many years as a caretaker at Brandon Training School. She was of Catholic faith. 

She is survived by her children, Dwayne Wilcox of Rutland, George Wilcox of Shoreham and Eunenie Bailey of Brandon.

DIONIR YOUNG

MIDDLEBURY — Dionir Young, 91, of Middlebury died on Jan. 1 from complications of rheumatoid arthritis.

She was born on June 22, 1922, in Belem do Para, Brazil, the daughter of Maria Jose Alves de Souza and Eleuterio Vicente Gomes.

WILLIAM "BILL" MACE

FERRISBURGH — William “Bill” Mace, 83, passed away on Dec. 30, 2013, at his winter home in Florence, Ala., surrounded by his loving family and friends. 

He was born in Ferrisburgh on June 2, 1930, the son of the late Herbert Seward and Calla Field Mace. He graduated from Vergennes High School and went on to McDonald College (McGill University), Montreal, Canada, and Birmingham Southern, Birmingham, Ala. He married Judith Graves of Morrisville and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past summer.

JACQUELINE BURTON

WEYBRIDGE/GRANTHAM, N.H. — Jacqueline Bell Burton, 90, of Grantham, N.H., passed away peacefully at the home of her son in Weybridge, Vt.

She was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Tulsa, Okla., to Florence Mahr Bell and Joseph B. Bell. She grew up in Rye, N.Y.

She married Charles Parkin Wassell and resided in Westport, Conn. He predeceased her in May of 1944 — one of three brothers who died in World War II. She is survived by their son Peter, his wife Jane and their two sons in Vermont.

WIEKA DYKSTRA

NEW HAVEN — Wieka Dykstra, 67, New Haven, VT, went to be with the Lord on December 19, 2013 under the loving care of her family at Manatee Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Dykstra was born on January 6, 1946, in Friesland, Holland, to her parents Benjamin and Ann DeBoer.

Wieka was retired from B.F. Goodrich as an Accountant. She and her husband were winter residents of Palmetto for over 5 years and called New Haven, Vermont, home. She was a member of the Champlain Valley Christian Reformed Church in Vermont and attended Palmetto Fellowship Church in Palmetto, Fla.

GUY CHICOINE

WHITING — Guy Chicoine, 68, of Whiting, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, Dec. 28, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Born July 5, 1945, in St. Hyacinthe, Canada, he was the son of the late Rolland and Marie (Lavallee) Chicoine.

BEVERLY L. DEVINE

RICHMOND, Ind. — Beverly L. Devine, age 89, of Richmond, Ind., died Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2013, at Friends Fellowship Community.

Born Sept. 5, 1924, in Kalamazoo, Mich., to Henry Clinton and Edna Miller Fisher, Beverly had lived in Richmond since 2007. She was a graduate of Kalamazoo Business College. Beverly was an administrative assistant at University of Vermont for 14 years. She was a member of Community Lutheran Church in South Burlington, Vt., and attended Bethany Lutheran Church in Connersville, Ind.

WILLIAM “BILL” GOLDSTEIN

LINCOLN — William “Bill” Goldstein, 70, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, Dec. 29, 2013, surrounded by loving family.

Bill was a man of many talents and passions — an avid athlete and outdoorsman, a lover of political discussions and good books, a well-respected oral surgeon, an equestrian, a cyclist, patriarch to his children and grandchildren, and loving companion to his wife, Linda. Bill treasured his friends and the experiences they shared.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid obituaries and free notices of passing. Paid obituaries cost 25-cents per word, and $10 per photo. The obituary will publish as it is submitted on the date of the family’s choosing.

For those who do not wish to purchase an obituary, the Addison Independent offers anyone with a local connection the opportunity to publish a notice of passing. These notices may be up to 100 words and are subject to editing by our news department.

Submissions must be received by 11 a.m. on Wednesday for publication in the Thursday paper and 11 a.m. on Friday for Monday’s paper.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN — Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
