FLORENCE OTTEN

CORNWALL Florence Margaret Otten, 78, died Wednesday, June 4, 2014, at her home in Cornwall after a brief illness.

Born Sept. 12, 1935, in Jersey City, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Charles Raphael and Winifred (Crooks) Brinkman. She was a graduate of Port Richmond High School, class of 1953.

She married Werner Otten Oct. 20, 1956, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Staten Island, N.Y. Florence, together with her husband, owned and operated the Whiting Corner Cupboard General Store for over 20 years.

LINDA FAIRBANKS

FAIR HAVEN — Linda Jean Fairbanks, 66, of Fair Haven died Tuesday, June 3, 2014.

She was born on June 25, 1947, in Windsor, the daughter of Ronald and Shirley (Martin) Harrington. She received her early education in Bridgewater and Woodstock and graduated from Woodstock High School.

She married Alan Rickert and four children were born in that union. She later married Willie Thomas and one child was born in that union. She later married Alfred Leon Fairbanks of Orwell. He died Nov. 26, 1996.

ARTHUR BRADLEY JR.

WEYBRIDGE — Arthur Eugene Bradley Jr., 87, of Weybridge died on May 30, 2014, after a short illness.

He was born in Randolph on Oct. 28, 1926, the oldest of 12 children of Arthur E. and Frances (Van Driessche) Bradley Sr.

Arthur worked on farms for many years throughout Addison County and then ran a milk route for Monument Farms Dairy. He also worked as a security guard and as a cook for Helen Porter Nursing Home. He was an Addison County Deputy Sheriff for a number of years.

DAVID JEWETT

CALABASH, N.C. — David Tuttle Jewett, 73, of Calabash, N.C., died May 26, 2014, following a head injury and complications.

He was born Oct. 27, 1941, in Middlebury. He graduated from Middlebury High School in 1959 and Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1966.

He served honorably in the U.S. Navy for two years. He built a career with IBM, as an engineer, for 38 years.

His is survived by his wife, Berbel R. Jewett; three daughters, Leslie Jewett, Kellie Lefever and Kristie Macaluso; a stepson, Patrick Fee; and a granddaughter.

ALLAN B. KAMMAN

MIDDLEBURY — Alan B. Kamman, 83, of Middlebury, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014, at his home. Alan was born on Jan. 25, 1931, in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of Daniel L. Kamman and Sara B. Kamman (Friedman).

Alan was a 1948 graduate of Central High School in Philadelphia and a 1952 graduate of Swarthmore College. Alan married his lifelong partner, Madeleine Marguerite Pin, in Paris, France, on Feb. 15, 1960. They resided in suburban Philadelphia, suburban Boston, New Hampshire, California, Florida, and finally Vermont where their family now lives.

SUMMIT, N.J. — Claude V. Offray, Jr., 87, of Summit, N.J. died at his home on May 31. He owned a residence and had many friends in Lincoln, Vt.

MIDDLEBURY — Michael J. Rizner, 57, of Middlebury, died of cancer on May 26, 2014, at Helen Porter Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Middlebury. He was born on Feb. 23, 1957, in Osaka, Japan, son of John A. Rizner and Tsumiyo Mickey (Ishita) Rizner.

Submitting an obituary

The Addison Independent publishes paid and free obituaries. Paid obituaries run just as submitted with a charge of $9.00 per column inch, and the editor shapes free obituaries to conform to our editorial style. We run photos of the person if they are submitted in a relatively high-quality format.

Generally, obituaries follow this form:
TOWN - Name, age, of town, died on date, of cause of death. He/She was born on date in town, the son/daughter of father's name and mother's name, including maiden name in parentheses.

Then include a paragraph or two about where the person went to school and what they did for work; where they lived, who they married and when.

Add a sentence or two about what made the person special to family and friends, including hobbies, avocations or other telling details about their life.

He/She is survived by spouse's name; children named individually (and their spouses and towns of residence, if appropriate); siblings named individually; number of grandchildren, parents or other immediate family members.

He/She was predeceased by names of immediate family members.

A memorial service will be held (fill in details of date, time, and place, plus officiate if applicable) with interment at (place). Memorial contributions may be made to (name and complete address, if applicable).
