Not to be rude, but why are so many
Just wondering what other people have seen around here. Personally, I have seen many, many people in Middlebury act very rude.
It's very disappointing, actually. Some people walk around here (or live around here) with such a chip on their shoulder, it's crazy. Our neighbors are a prime example. They act better than everyone else, like they own the whole neighborhood. I wish I could name names, but I won't.
But here is a message for those who think they are better than others: Grow up and get a life. It's pathetic to see grown people act so childish.

Thank you
Thank you for not naming names.
rudeness
Sometimes people are just rude. No good reason, maybe out of stupidity. Some are rude because other people are rude selfish and greedy to them. Sometimes people are rude because they are carring around a lot of pain in there very soul.
old vermonter
they're probably rude
they're probably rude because they're out of staters, that moved here. or they're middlebury college students.
rude
Sometimes even the most educated people have not learned one important thing . Treat people, like you want to be treated .
an out of stater wants to chime in
Hello,
yes the people in the Middlebury area I find incredibly rude, too. Except I am on the other side of the coin - I am a college student who has recently graduated and lives and works in town. People treat me like absolute shit as soon as they find out I am an out of stater. People are so incredibly rude to me it makes me sick. Not to mention the fact that people also treat me like I'm rich, which I am not - I have incurred an incredible amount of debt attending the college. So I get harassed for extra cash by my landlord all the time for stuff I didn't do in addition to being treated like crap.
So while poster #2 says its the college kids and out of staters who are rude, I am here to confirm that 75% of the people I see around town treat me like garbage simply because I fit that criteria. I made a huge mistake living here and as soon as my employment contract ends I am getting the hell out so you all can enjoy your "locals only" attitude with one another. Your welcome for pumping plenty of cash into your local economy during my stay,
-MB
To An Out of Stater That Wants To Chime In
Wow, you sound pretty rude yourself. Thank God you're moving!!!!!
rudeness
Thanks to an "out of stater" and bettej6 I have had my chuckle for tonight. Seriously, Don't waste your energy by letting rude people upset you. I am truly sorry to all that have been treated rudely. Take the high road and just smile at all, rude or not. You will feel better for it. Have a great day/evening.

It's really too bad...
That people have to act that way. I have recently moved home back to Vermont and noticed this about many in businesses in the Middlebury area. So I would say that this attitude will probably not help the dying Middlebury area economy.
To the Vermonters I would say to remember that we are a small state that thrives on communities and helping one another. Tourism is probably only 50% of your business so treat locals good.
To the visitors I would say thank you for your business but remember this is our home and to be respectful of it. You wouldn't like us coming to your home and being rude. So let's all be nice to each other.
On an odd note, Vergennes economy is starting to upswing a little and I think for some very good reasons. We have tourism but have not lost touch with the everyday people who live in the area. We also don't rely on the college so when they say change the arrangements for eating on campus it won't cripple our area retaurants and things like this. This was also my reason to choose Middlebury over Vergennes to start my business.
