Middlebury Police Log: Man cited for first degree domestic assault

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Joseph P. Pelkey, 43, of Middlebury for first-degree domestic assault, following an alleged incident on July 16. Police said the victim reported being choked.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Responded to a reported family dispute at a Washington Street residence on July 16.

•  Received, from a good Samaritan, a wallet found near the steps of the Vermont Folklife Center on Main Street on July 16. Police helped find the owner of the wallet.

•  Responded to a family dispute at a Fields Road residence on July 16.

•  Served a no-trespass order on July 17 on a man not wanted at the Maplefields store on North Pleasant Street.

•  Served a no-trespass order on July 17 on a woman not wanted on the Porter Hospital campus.

•  Assisted a local man who had allegedly received threatening calls from another man on July 17.

•  Responded to a two-vehicle accident, with injuries, at the Village Depot store on Court Street on July 17.

•  Cited Daniel G. Enzfelder, 33, of Burlington for violating the town’s open container law on July 17. Police were called to the scene by a witness reporting a man having trouble standing up on the steps leading into the Ilsley Library.

•  Responded to a report of a man yelling and waving at vehicles near the roundabout on Main Street on July 18. Police said the man was drunk and was turned over to a relative.

•  Cited John C. Stokes, 19, of Corinth for being a minor in possession of alcohol, following an investigation in the Airport Road neighborhood on July 18. Police said they responded to the area following a report of a fight. Police said they measured Corinth’s blood-alcohol content at 0.129 percent. For the sake of comparison, the legal limit for driving is 0.08 percent.

•  Received a call on July 19 from a person claiming to have a possible lead in the 40-year-old, missing-person case of former Middlebury College student Lynne Schulze.

•  Assisted Porter Hospital officials on July 19 with a drunken patient who was getting out of control.

•  Warned a man for violating the town’s ordinance on public urination in the Court Street Extension area on July 19.

•  Received a report of a broken water main north of the Agri-Mark/Cabot plan on Exchange Street on July 19. Police said officials from the town’s water department responded to the scene.

•  Responded, with area firefighters, to a small fire on the exterior of Mister Up’s Restaurant on July 19.

•  Responded to a report of an unwanted person at a Seminary Street residence on July 19.

•  Served a no-trespass order on July 19 on a man not wanted at the Middlebury College library on Storrs Avenue.

•  Investigated a report of youths throwing rocks at geese in the Frog Hollow area on July 19.

•  Cited Joey Ciaramitaro, 18, of Middlebury for driving with a suspended license on Washington Street Extension on July 19.

•  Investigated reports of a large amount of water on Butternut Ridge Drive on July 20. Police said a temporary water main pipe had separated, causing a water leak.

•  Took a statement from a local woman alleging she had been assaulted on July 20.

•  Investigated a report on July 20 that someone had stolen “several hundred cubic feet” of firewood from the woodpile of a South Munger Street residence. Authorities said this was the second time such a theft had occurred at the property.

•  Assisted a local man who reported receiving harassing phone calls on July 20.

•  Served an order against stalking on a local woman on July 20.

•  Assisted a local woman who reported on July 20 that a man had been calling her and visiting her at her workplaces in Middlebury and Bristol. Police said the woman will be seeking a stalking order against the man.

•  Issued court diversion paperwork to a minor who was under the influence of alcohol on Cross Street on July 21.

•  Served no-trespass orders on July 21 on a man and a woman who were not wanted at the Marquis Theater on Main Street.

•  Responded to a family dispute at a Court Street residence on July 21.

•  Got psychiatric help for a man whom police said was showing signs of mental stress at The Centre shopping plaza on July 22.

•  Served a no-trespass order on July 22 on a man who was not wanted at residences on Seymour Street and Perkins Lane.

•  Were informed of the theft of a woman’s wallet from an unlocked vehicle parked off Porter Drive on July 22.

•  Assisted a local man who reported receiving harassing and threatening phone calls on July 23.
