New Haven asks questions of Anbaric on Vermont Green Line

NEW HAVEN — “This is a large project and there’s a lot of pros and cons,” said New Haven selectboard chair Kathy Barrett, as Anbaric Transmission continues to woo New Haven as the site of its proposed $150 million converter station and as New Haven continues to weigh its options.

“There’s a lot of information out there — accurate and inaccurate. I think that everyone has to become as informed as possible and make their own personal decision.”

Ferrisburgh eyeing deal with Vergennes police

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard will consider during its upcoming budget talks whether to propose spending up to $25,000 a year for 10 hours a week of service from the Vergennes Police Department, board members said at their Nov. 17 meeting.

Board members said they would make the decision to include that or a lesser amount in the 2016-2017 municipal budget after hearing from Vergennes City Manager Mel Hawley and Vergennes Police Chief George Merkel about what city police could offer Ferrisburgh.

Vermont Gas pipeline nears easement goal

MONKTON — Vermont Gas officials on Thursday said the company has reached land easement agreements with 160 of the 164 affected property owners along the Addison Natural Gas Project corridor, and noted that eminent domain proceedings are still pending against the four landowners who have declined to sign deals.

“We are really close to having agreements with everyone,” Vermont Gas CEO Don Rendall said during a phone interview. “We’re still talking to most of the remaining four.”

Ferrisburgh to ask for sweeter deal on 'green' power line

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard at its Nov. 17 meeting said it would appoint a three-member committee to negotiate a memorandum of understanding with the companies proposing a $600 million, 400-megawatt underground power line that would run under Ferrisburgh roads from Kingsland Bay to Route 7 on its way to a New Haven converter station.

Town seeks study to end Creek Road woes

MIDDLEBURY — The town of Middlebury is ordering a study to determine ways of preventing further erosion of Creek Road, which was closed this past spring after some large sections of the roadway surrendered to the forces of the adjacent Otter Creek.

Hunters reminded to provide deer teeth to the state

RUTLAND — The Vermont Fish & Wildlife Department is reminding hunters who harvest a deer during the November rifle season to provide a middle incisor tooth from the deer so its age can be determined.

Hunters who get a deer during the Nov. 14-29 rifle season are asked to provide an incisor tooth from their deer when they go to a reporting station.

Annual holiday auction to be held at Brandon library

BRANDON — The Friends of the Brandon Free Public Library’s annual holiday auction will take place on Sunday, Dec. 6, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the library.

Over 50 local patrons, artists and Brandon businesses have donated wreaths and other seasonal decorations, dinners for two, birdhouses, gift certificates and more. Items may be preview the week before and from 2-2:30 p.m. on the day of the auction. There will be music, refreshments and door prizes.

There is a requested donation of $1. Call 247-8230 for more information.

Mt. Abe seeks speakers from recent alumni

BRISTOL — The Mount Abraham Union High/Middle School is seeking a handful of recent MAUHS graduates to speak at a December board meeting on how Mount Abe prepared them for life after high school.

Specifically, the board wants to hear from women and men who graduated within the past one to five years, whether they went from Mount Abe into college, the armed services or directly into the work force.
