MIDDLEBURY — A wayward — and unlucky — squirrel caused a widespread Sunday morning power outage in Middlebury that lasted more than an hour, a Green Mountain Power spokesperson said.

GMP’s Jeremy Baker said 1,652 customers served by the company’s downtown Middlebury substation in the Marble Works lost power at 7:42 a.m. on Sunday after the squirrel “made contact” with the top of a bank of transformers and shorted out their fuses.

ADDISON COUNTY — Homeowners in a half-dozen Addison County towns who would like to take advantage of voter-approved Property-Assessed Clean Energy (PACE) district provisions to help finance energy-efficiency improvements will have to wait a little longer.

But an official of the Vermont Energy Investment Corp. SOUTH STARKSBORO — Greg Orvis easily recalls the days when the one big classroom at the Jerusalem Schoolhouse in South Starksboro was buzzing with activity. As many as 27 students in grades 1 through 8  learned their lessons under the watchful eye of Mrs. Wyman when Orvis attended the school in the late 1950s and ’60s.
