Holly Friesen 'lights up the night' with spring exhibit

Edgewater Gallery at Middlebury Falls begins its spring season on March 22 with a contemporary landscape painter: Holly Friesen and her exhibit “Lighting Up The Night.” This Quebecois artist’s work revolves around “earth honoring” — where she paints images that reflect her connectedness to the wilderness.

Hand-painted film screens in town

Middlebury’s Town Hall Theater presents Oscar-nominee “Loving Vincent,” the world’s first fully oil painted feature film this Friday, March 23, at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. This film tells van Gogh’s remarkable story by bringing his paintings to life. Every one of the 65,000 frames of the film is hand-painted by 125 professional oil-painters who travelled from all across the world to the Loving Vincent studios in Poland and Greece.

Trio brings Irish music to Bristol

Two new exhibits reopen the Sheldon Museum

Middlebury’s Henry Sheldon Museum was closed for the month of February for “exhibit planning, installation and research.” And it was worth the wait. The museum reopened earlier this month and has two exhibits you won’t want to miss.

Young traditions tours Town Hall Theater

Vermont State Police Log: Lost hiker spent night in woods before rescue

ADDISON COUNTY — Rescuers from a host of local and state first response agencies collaborated this past Thursday night and Friday morning to find and evacuate a Middlebury man who apparently got lost in the Green Mountain National Forest and spent the night in the woods.

Vermont State Police report that 27-year-old Jeffrey Kramer went hiking on the Long Trail north of the Middlebury Gap on March 15.

Middlebury Police Log: Police investigate embezzlement case

MIDDLEBURY —Middlebury police launched an investigation into an alleged embezzlement case at Middlebury Regional EMS on March 13. Police said the case involves a “large sum of money” related to an event the organization held back in 2016.

The Independent will offer more details on this investigation as they become public.

This is the second embezzlement case in recent months involving Middlebury Regional EMS as the victim.

Vergennes Police Log: City police deal with accidents, arguments

VERGENNES — Vergennes police handled a variety of routine incidents in a mostly quiet week between March 12 and 18, including responding to minor accidents, calming verbal disputes, dealing with noise complaints, and helping motorists get into their locked vehicles.

During those seven days, Vergennes police:

•  On March 12 brought the department K-9 unit to meet-and-greets at Vergennes union elementary and high schools.

•  On March 13 and 17 helped motorists get into locked vehicles on Main Street.
