Lucy Prebble has transformed one of the most infamous scandals in financial history into a theatrical epic — “Enron.” Director Cheryl Faraone and the Middlebury College Department of Theatre and Dance are bringing this black comedy to the stage at the Wright Memorial Theater at the end of next week.

In a recent meeting up on the hill, my colleague began our time together by asking for name introductions and sharing of our superpower. The thoughtful and playful people in attendance had an array of fabulous powers: spacial prowess, google master, knucklehead whisperer, super-duper pooper-scooper. I was feeling spirited that day and chimed in with my diagnostic slam dunks of four rash cases in the clinic that week. It was a lively activity and opened our minds up before we settled in for the work in front of us.

A Quiet Place — Running Time: 1:30 — Rating: PG-13

Just to level with you at the outset: I’m no fan of horror movies. When good reports began to sift in about “A Quiet Place” it seemed the best choice during this extremely weak movie spring. Just about two minutes passed before the originality and skill up there on the screen scared the audience into stone cold silence. Who is responsible for this wickedly absorbing movie?

Marking four years, Middlebury Community Music Center gives benefit concert

It has been four years since the Middlebury Community Music Center opened its doors to aspiring musicians young and old. Since then it has become a vibrant and well-loved member of the community. The Center will celebrate its 4th annual Scholarship Benefit Concert at the Town Hall Theater on Saturday, May 5, at 1 p.m. Students and faculty will perform bluegrass, classical, jazz, and more, sharing lots of great music after a terrific year of learning.

Leicester news for April 30

LEICESTER — Green Up Day is almost here. Bags and gloves are available at the Leicester Town Office. A free lunch of hot dogs, chips, brownies and soda, for Green Up volunteers will be offered at the Four Corners on Saturday, May 5, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Filled bags may be brought to the town shed that morning, pick up your free lunch ticket that doubles as a raffle ticket.

Ride for bike-safety awareness honors Kelly Boe

MIDDLEBURY — All bicyclists are invited to join the Walk/Bike Council of Addison County, Middlebury Safe Routes and Kathy Boe on Wednesday, May 9, for a slow-paced bike ride in honor of those who have been injured or killed while cycling on public roads, including Boe’s late husband, Kelly.

Kelly Boe was killed while out bike riding in 2015; this ride was started and named in his honor.

A goal of the ride is to raise awareness that we all share the road and share responsibility for keeping it safe.

Lincoln news for April 30

LINCOLN — Spring is here and that means Green Up Day is right around the corner. This year it will be held on Saturday, May 5, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Lincoln Fire House. Stop by between 8 and 11 a.m. to pick up bags and gloves and get your road assignment. From 11 a.m.-1 p.m. bring your filled bags back to the fire house and receive one raffle ticket per bag dropped off.

Learn to prevent Lyme Disease in dogs

April is Prevent Lyme Disease in Dogs Month. Most people have heard of Lyme disease and know how prevalent it is in Vermont, but may not know much about it.

Lyme disease is spread through deer tick bites and caused by a bacteria called borrelia burgdorferi. This disease can cause your dog to be lame, lethargic and not want to eat. In more severe cases, it can lead to kidney disease and rarely death. Preventing Lyme disease through vaccines and preventatives is the best way to keep your dog healthy.
