WalkOver Gallery exhibits Monkton artist's "meditative" paintings

BRISTOL — Linda Seiffert Reynolds, artist, art teacher and longtime Monkton resident, is exhibiting her paintings at the WalkOver Gallery during the months of February and March in a show titled “Years of Seasons.” The paintings, all watercolors except for one large pastel, “are meant to offer visual meditation,” through images of transient moments in nature.

500kW solar array in Brandon gets state approval

BRANDON — The town of Brandon has received a Certificate of Public Good for a 500-kilowatt, net metering solar array located in the town industrial park.

The Public Service Board, which authorizes and regulates all power-generating projects in Vermont, issued the required CPG for the Brandon array on March 17.

VUHS teacher nets $100,000 honor

VERGENNES — Vergennes Union High School English teacher Michael Thomas has been named the school’s third winner of a $100,000 Rowland Fellowship from South Londonderry’s Rowland Foundation, which has been awarding such fellowships to innovative Vermont teachers since 2009.

MIDDLEBURY — For most people, regular exercise is one key to quality of life.

For Amy Buxton, exercise is a way of life — and she’s preparing to showcase the benefits of her labors in competitions throughout the state and beyond.

Buxton, a 38-year-old mother of three, recently took part in her first fitness competition and plans on entering many more.

“I’m hooked,” the Middlebury resident said during a recent interview. “I’m going to keep going.”

Mount Abe hires U-32 administrator as its next principal

BRISTOL — Jessica Barewicz, one of two assistant principals at U-32 Middle and High School in East Montpelier, has been selected as the next Mount Abraham Union Middle/High School principal. She will begin her tenure July 1.

Although, as is typical, salary and contract details remain to be worked out, Interim Superintendent Armando Vilaseca said the Mount Abraham board was pleased with the hire.

Porter’s new interim CEO Fred Kniffin, MD, is known by his colleages to possess both qualities, as well as someone who has experience as a doctor and in the hospital administration as chief medical officer.
