Middlebury Police Log: Leaving accident scene lands woman citation

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police cited Alicia Gendreau, 24, of Bristol for driving under the influence, leaving the scene of an accident and negligent driving following investigation of a car crash on Court Street Extension on July 20.
Police allege Gendreau struck a parked vehicle at the Middlebury Mobil Short Stop, then left the area. Police said no one was injured in the crash. Gendreau has provided a blood sample for their investigation, police said.
Vergennes police and Vermont State Police assisted Middlebury PD in responding to this incident.
In other action last week, Middlebury police:
• Began an investigation into a fight between two men at the Briarwood Apartments on July 15.
• Responded on July 15 to a Buttolph Drive residence on a report of a suicidal person. Middlebury Regional EMS officials took the person to Porter Hospital for evaluation.
• Investigation a report of vandalism to a swimming pool at a Delancey Lane home on July 16.
• Assisted a White Pine Lane resident who on July 16 reported an unleashed dog on her property that was growling at her own dog and some chickens.
• Warned a person who had been shooting off fireworks in the Munson Road neighborhood on July 16.
• Assisted a local resident who reported funds stolen from their bank account by an out-of-state person on July 16.
• Connected a local, suicidal woman with mental health counseling on July 17.
• Helped Hannaford Supermarket on July 17 deal with a person not wanted at the store.
• Were informed of the alleged theft of an unspecified amount of money from a person at the Eastview at Middlebury retirement community on July 17.
• Responded to a report of an injured deer on Route 7 South on July 17.
• Received a report someone had damaged a vehicle windshield while shooting pellets at pigeons in the Lower Foote Street area on July 17.
• Cited Peter D. Thibodeau, 38, of Middlebury for retail theft at the Middlebury Short Stop on Court Street Extension on July 18.
• Drove, to Rutland Regional Medical Center, a drunken man on Main Street who was in need of detox services on July 18.
• Served two temporary stalking orders on a woman on North Pleasant Street on July 18.
• Received a report that a man had broken into the vacuum equipment at the Speedi-Lube business on Route 7 South on July 18. Police are investigating the matter.
• Investigated a noise complaint at a Woodbridge Lane home on July 19.
• Helped Middlebury Regional EMS with a local resident who may have been considering self-harm on July 19.
• Were informed of the theft of money from a tip jar at the Daily Grind coffee shop on Merchants Row on July 19.
• Investigated a dispute between two people in the Court Street Extension area on July 19.
• Launched an investigation into an alleged assault that occurred on Main Street on July 20.
• Assisted Vermont State Police in locating and taking a suspect into custody on Porter Medical Center campus on July 20.
• Cited Rebecca Clayton, 32, of Pawlet for retail theft, following an alleged incident at the TJ Maxx store in The Centre shopping plaza on July 20.
• Received a report that someone had poured sugar in the gas tank of a vehicle parked at the Briarwood Apartments on July 20.
• Began investigation into the potential theft of funds from a local resident’s bank account on July 20.
• Launched an investigation into a possible sexual assault reported in the Ridgeline Road area on July 21.
• Checked on a report of gunshots and a possible explosion in the North Branch Road area on July 21. Police said they couldn’t pinpoint the source of the noise.
• Cited Leon Forrest, 38, of Leicester for driving under the influence, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Court Street and Mary Hogan Drive. Police said they measured Forrest’s blood-alcohol content at 0.065 percent. While that’s below the state’s legal limit of 0.08 percent, Middlebury Police Sgt. Michael Christopher reminds drivers that authorities are allowed to consider all the circumstances leading up to a DUI stop, and that the breath test is at times administered “a considerable time from the actual time of operation.”
• Quieted a loud party at a Route 7 North home on July 21.
• Received a report that someone had forced their way into a vehicle parked on Maple Street during the evening of July 22. The case remains under investigation, police said.
• Were informed of suspected vandalism to a multiple-unit mailbox stand off Cross Street on July 22.
• Checked on a man who had been sleeping in the narrow space between the Ilsley Library and town offices on July 22.
• Confiscated what police said were “several” marijuana plants from a School House Hill Road residence on July 22. Police said they came upon the plants while responding to a report of “someone (at the home) yelling for someone else to get a gun.” Police said a resident at the home confirmed the discussion about getting a gun for protection against a possible intruder. The case remains under investigation.
State law limits Vermonters to possession of up to an ounce of marijuana and up to two mature plants on their property.
