Feds looking to prosecute Weybridge embezzlement

WEYBRIDGE — The embezzlement case against former Weybridge Town Clerk and Treasurer Karen Brisson will be adjudicated in U.S. District Court, as opposed to through the state judicial system.

That news was confirmed on Thursday by Weybridge officials and Assistant U.S. Attorney Greg Waples, who will prosecute the case against Brisson.

ACSU eyes audit of Weybridge school accounts

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union has ordered an audit of its Weybridge school financial accounts in the wake of the resignation of Weybridge Town Clerk and Treasurer Karen Brisson, who admitted last week to having embezzled funds from the town.

Brisson additionally served as treasurer for the Weybridge school district.

Weybridge town clerk admits to embezzlement

WEYBRIDGE — Longtime Weybridge Town Clerk and Treasurer Karen Brisson on Monday resigned from her job after admitting to the local selectboard that she had been embezzling town funds during the past several years, an amount that the town’s attorney said could range between $100,000 and $150,000, according to preliminary estimates.

Around the region: Old Cornwall school needs roof repairs

CORNWALL — Only a few months after settling the longstanding question of what to do with the old Lavalley store building (it will be removed), Cornwall citizens must now consider the future of another historic structure: School house No. 5, located on South Bingham Street.

The old school building, currently unused, needs roof repairs, according to Cornwall Road Foreman Stu Johnson.

Officials are considering whether shingles, slate or some other material should be used in repairing or replacing the roof.
