Collins, Johnson decline ACSU superintendent job

MIDDLEBURY - The Addison Central Supervisory Union's search for a new superintendent will continue after a third bid to locate a top executive failed to woo a finalist on Friday, Dec. 21.

District officials confirmed late Friday afternoon that both finalists - Burlington School District Superintendent Jeanne Collins and John W. Johnson, an executive with the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction - withdrew their names from consideration, citing personal reasons.

ACSU retains interim chief another year

MIDDLEBURY — Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) Superintendent Gail Conley, who has been serving on an interim basis since last July 1, has agreed to serve another year in order to give a search committee more time to find his replacement.

An ACSU search committee has thus far initiated two ill-fated searches for a new superintendent. Those searches yielded relatively few applications from what is a shrinking pool nationwide of qualified education administrators. In both cases, the search committee did not feel it could advance a finalist for the job.

ACSU narrows search for leader

MIDDLEBURY — A screening committee charged with reviewing applications for the vacant Addison Central Supervisory Union superintendency could endorse a finalist within the next few days.

Peter Conlon, Cornwall representative to the ACSU board and leader of the screening committee, confirmed on Monday that his panel had interviewed one of three finalists who had been flagged for the job. Conlon explained that the other two finalists ended up accepting other positions before the committee had a chance to interview them.

Former school head files suit vs. ACSU

MIDDLEBURY — Former Addison Central Supervisory Union Superintendent Lee Sease has filed a lawsuit against his former employer in U.S. District Court, claiming he was unlawfully fired last spring.

Sease further claims he was not given reasons for his termination and alleges he was not given a chance to be heard on the matter. He is urging the court to award him damages, including lost wages and benefits. Sease received a total annual compensation package (salary and benefits) of $127,321, according to court records.

Adams is chosen as new chief for ANeSU

BRISTOL — The Addison Northeast Supervisory Union (ANeSU) Tuesday evening hired a new superintendent to replace Evelyn Howard, who will step down this summer after 12 years on the job.

David Adams, current superintendent of Windsor Southwest Supervisory Union, will take over ANeSU’s top executive post on July 1. Adams will bring with him more than three decades of education experience, ranging from assistant superintendent of Vermont Southwest Supervisory Union in Bennington to principal of Mount Anthony Union Middle School in Bennington.

ACSU reboots search for new superintendent

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory union board will re-advertise the school district’s superintendent vacancy in wake of an initial search that concluded on Thursday without producing an acceptable candidate.

Gail Conley, the ACSU’s interim superintendent, said the position will now be re-advertised in conjunction with the soon-to-be-vacant associate superintendent position. Associate Superintendent Jan Willey has tendered her resignation effective at the end of the school year.

ANeSU names finalists for superintendent job

BRISTOL — The Addison Northeast Supervisory Union board expects to select a new superintendent in the next month, and a search committee has whittled down a pool of 18 applicants to three finalists: Catrina DiNapoli, David Adams and Douglas Harris.

As part of the superintendent selection process, the public is invited to meet the candidates next Monday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. at a forum at Mount Abraham Union High School — and learn more about the candidates’ visions for the school district.

Top ANeSU executive to leave at end of year

BRISTOL — After 12 years as superintendent of the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union (ANeSU), Evelyn Howard has said she will leave the post effective June 30, 2012.

According to Jeff Francis, executive director of the Vermont Superintendents Association, Howard’s tenure in the same district is the fifth-longest in the state. This number is based on 60 superintendents statewide with an average tenure of about four years.

ACSU plans strategy for hiring new school chief

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) school board last week officially launched its search for a new superintendent, agreeing on a salary range, length of contract, the makeup of a screening committee for candidates, and a basic timetable for selection of a finalist expected to be on the job by next summer.
