Leicester woman dies from crash injuries

SALISBURY — A Leicester woman has died from injuries she sustained in a single-car crash located at the intersection Creek Road and Dewey Road in Salisbury on Sept. 13.

Vermont State Police on Tuesday, Sept. 19, confirmed Danielle Austin, 39, had died after having sustained life threatening injuries in the crash.

ACSD budget reflects school tax decreases

MIDDLEBURY — The latest draft of the first-ever global budget for Addison Central School District (ACSD) schools indicates education property tax rates for the seven member-communities could drop next year between 3 cents (in Middlebury) to 27 cents (in Weybridge).

Remnants of burned covered bridge are cleared

CORNWALL — Workers have until Dec. 9 to remove the charred remnants of the former Swamp Road covered bridge, in anticipation of the Vermont Agency of Transportation installing a temporary span to restore traffic between Salisbury and Cornwall before Jan. 1, 2017.

That update was provided on Nov. 23 by Cornwall Selectman Brian Kemp and Salisbury Selectman Paul Vaczy, the local liaisons to VTrans in the aftermath of the Sept. 10 fire that destroyed the historic covered bridge spanning the Otter Creek on Swamp Road.

Blaze destroys 150-year-old covered bridge

CORNWALL/SALISBURY — The charred remains of the covered bridge that crossed Otter Creek between Salisbury and Cornwall smoldered early Sunday evening more than 24 hours after a fire of unknown origin had quickly engulfed and consumed the picturesque and historic span.

CORNWALL/SALISBURY — A fire of unknown origin burned the covered bridge that crossed Otter Creek between Salisbury and Cornwall on Creek Road/Swamp Road on Saturday afternoon.

Police closed the road (Creek Road in Salisbury and Swamp Road in Cornwall) for an undetermined time.

Mosquito district buys new rig to aid swamp spraying

Salisbury to vote on Thursday, June 2, on $1 million bridge replacement

“A ‘Thank you’ goes a long way.”

Middlebury-area races shape up for Town Meeting Day

ADDISON COUNTY — Town Meeting Day will feature races for selectboard spots in Middlebury, Salisbury, Ripton and Weybridge, while Bridport and Ripton will decide competitions for their respective seats on a new, unified district school board that would represent all Middlebury-area schools.

Monday was the deadline for candidates for local offices to submit their nomination papers with their respective town clerks in order to get on the March 1 Town Meeting Day ballot. Folks can still jump into races through write-in campaigns.
