Panther hockey earns Jumbo-sized victory

MIDDLEBURY – The Middlebury College men’s hockey team followed up a disappointing 3-3 tie in Friday’s home opener vs. Connecticut with a display of their potential against visiting Tufts on Saturday afternoon in a 9-2 romp.

The 3-1-2 Panthers excelled in all phases against the 3-3-1 Jumbos, passing crisply, moving well off the puck, finishing chances, breaking out of their zone and attacking the Tufts end with possession, winning battles for the puck, playing hustling defense, and getting solid goaltending.

Panthers fall to rival cardinals on home ice

MIDDLEBURY — Friday night’s anticipated match-up between the Middlebury College men’s hockey team and longtime rival Plattsburgh in the end turned out to be a mismatch.

Although the shot total at Kenyon Arena favored the visiting Cardinals by only 27-25, the Cardinals generated by far the better chances in dealing the Panthers their worst setback since 1993, a 7-0 loss. The Panthers dropped to 6-5-2, while Plattsburgh, ranked No. 3 in NCAA Division III, improved to 11-2-3.
