Ilsley hosts Iron Chef contest for area students

MIDDLEBURY ¾ The basement of the Ilsley Public Library was filled on Friday night with the enthusiasm of middle school and high school students and a colorful spread of foods ranging from chocolate to fruit pizza as about 20 teens were competing to win the title of “Iron Chef.”

The two-hour event was hosted by the Teen Advisory Group and funded by the library to promote teen after-hours special events.

The Ilsley Public Library was abuzz with an unusual activity last Friday night: middle and high school students were hard at work creating food masterpieces. At the teen after-hours event, some 20 middle school and high school students conjured up a colorful spread of foods ranging from chocolate to fruit pizza.

Libraries cook up summer fun

ADDISON COUNTY –– Four-year-old Nathan Stefani eagerly watched Dennis Waring play a banjo made out of plywood and a cheap plastic bucket.

The performance delighted the young audience, and Stefani gave it a thumbs-up review.

“I liked it!” the Middlebury resident said.

Stefani and more than 80 other children and parents gathered last Thursday at the Ilsley Library in Middlebury to watch From Trash to Tunes, one of many performances the Ilsley holds as part of its summer reading program.

Library Director Clark to retire from Ilsley

MIDDLEBURY — Ilsley Public Library Board of Trustees Chair Sandra Carletti has announced that David Clark, library director, will retire March 15, 2013.

“The town of Middlebury has been fortunate to have David Clark as library director,” said Carletti, speaking for the board. “Over the last 16 years, David has approached all aspects of library operations with confidence, a high level of competence and a desire to provide excellent library services for the Middlebury community and beyond.”

MCTV plans digital future with Ilsley

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury Community Television (MCTV) and Ilsley Public Library are becoming more and more aligned in seeking to not only distribute published content, but to help people create and distribute their own content.

“We’re looking to the future, and we’re seeing our missions converge more and more,” MCTV Executive Director Dick Thodal said following the Middlebury nonprofit’s annual meeting at the Ilsley Thursday night.

Ilsley Library roof may need work
