College refinances $63 million building bond

MIDDLEBURY — With interest rates at a historically low level, it’s not just homeowners who are jumping at the opportunity to refinance mortgages: this spring, Middlebury College also refinanced $63.5 million worth of facilities debt.

The Vermont Education and Health Buildings Financing Agency (VEHBFA), which helped the college refinance its bonds, reports that the college will see about $11 million in savings at present value, a refund of about 18 percent of the total cost.

New MUMS roof needed; cost placed in $1M range

MIDDLEBURY — Voters in the Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) school district will likely be asked to approve a bond issue next year to help pay for re-roofing the Middlebury Union Middle School building.

The UD-3 school board has agreed to solicit bids for the work, which an architect has already estimated will cost between $634,457 and $960,608. The former figure reflects the cost of installing a new asphalt shingle roof; the latter would provide for a new metal roof.
