Middlebury warned about potential scam

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury authorities on Friday were put on alert about a woman going door-to-door claiming to be raising money on behalf of the Vermont Electric Power Co. (VELCO) for the Share Heat program that provides fuel assistance for Vermonters. Steve Costello, a spokesman for Green Mountain Power, said the state utilities do not raise Share Heat money through door-to-door campaigns are urging residents to not donate in this manner. Anyone in Middlebury receiving a visit of this nature should call police at 388-3191.

Perine marks anniversary with donation

MIDDLEBURY — With a donation of more than $1,000 to the Tot Time program with the Middlebury Recreation Department, National Bank of Middlebury President Ken Perine put the shoe on the other foot by giving to others on the 25th anniversary of his date of hire at the bank.
