ADDISON COUNTY — Vermont State Police divers on Monday continued their search for a missing Connecticut woman, this time in Orwell.

VSP Lt. Reginald Trayah said divers searched Johnson’s Pond, a 35-acre body of water that straddles the town line between Orwell and Sudbury.

Trayah said the search was related to the disappearance of Denise Hart, 25, of Hartford, Conn., who was last seen Jan. 25 in Sudbury. Police suspect foul play had a hand in Hart’s disappearance.

Gregory Dennis: Remembering the Frost Heaves

By Gregory Dennis

Some people do crazy things in midlife. They get divorced from a person they love, or they change careers or move across the country for no apparent reason.

But almost no one can say their midlife crisis involved creating a professional basketball team. A team that brightened the days of a rabid coterie of cowbell-clanging fans amid the winter gloom — and gave Vermont its first professional sports championships.

But Alex Wolff can say he did that.

Along with his wife, Vanessa, Wolff founded and ran the aptly named Vermont Frost Heaves.

Posted on February 12, 2015 |
By Zach Despart and John S. McCright

ADDISON COUNTY — Reaction to the announcement Tuesday that Vermont Gas Systems would abandon its proposal to build a $105 million pipeline from Middlebury to Ticonderoga, N.Y., was met with a mixture of joy and relief from Addison County residents who would have been directly affected.

“I was delighted because we spent more than two years trying to defeat this project,” said Cornwall Selectman Bruce Hiland.

Fire engulfs Cornwall barn, but no animals injured

Posted on January 30, 2015 |
By John Flowers

CORNWALL — A barn off West Street in Cornwall that was used to house heifers and to store hay was destroyed by a fire during the evening of Thursday, Jan. 29.

Cornwall Fire Chief Dennis Rheaume suspects sparks from a torch used to thaw out some frozen water pipes triggered the fire at the barn, owned by Randy Quesnel. The barn was empty of animals at the time but contained approximately 100 round bales of dry, good-quality hay, according to Rheaume.

Opinion: Cornwall wise to halt Vt. Gas talks

Posted on December 30, 2014 |
By Jane Palmer

Boy am I glad I am not a selectboard member in Cornwall right now.

Talk about being caught between a rock and a hard place. To recap the situation, in a nutshell, Vermont Gas/Gaz Métro proposed a high-pressure fracked gas pipeline through Cornwall and Shoreham and under the lake to reach its potentially most lucrative customer ever, and the majority of voters in Cornwall and Shoreham (at their respective town meetings last year), told VGS to go pound salt.
