BRISTOL — An atmosphere of pride and excitement permeated the first organizational meeting of the newly formed Addison Northeast School District, held at Mount Abraham Union High School last Thursday. The district is the result of a vote last November by the five towns of the Addison Northeast Supervisory Union to unify budgeting and governance in accordance with Act 46.

BRISTOL — “It’s a well-built school. It’s a steel-frame building. It’s got a brick façade to it. It holds its heat very well,” Alden Harwood said of the Mount Abraham Union High School, which opened to students in 1969.

“But it’s an old building. It’s a 1960s-vintage building that needs more than a facelift,” he cautioned. “We’re starting to see many things that are at the end of their useful life.”

BRISTOL — Five-town residents got a first look at two very different kinds of fiscal year budget scenarios for Mount Abraham Union High School, at a recent forum.

One budget included roughly $250,000 for ongoing repairs on the 47-year-old Bristol facility. The other sketched out what payments could look like on a 20-year, $20-million bond, which is considered the minimum needed to adequately renovate the building.
