ACSU retains interim chief another year

Posted on April 23, 2012 |
By Andrew Stein

MIDDLEBURY — Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) Superintendent Gail Conley, who has been serving on an interim basis since last July 1, has agreed to serve another year in order to give a search committee more time to find his replacement.

An ACSU search committee has thus far initiated two ill-fated searches for a new superintendent. Those searches yielded relatively few applications from what is a shrinking pool nationwide of qualified education administrators. In both cases, the search committee did not feel it could advance a finalist for the job.

Search for ACSU leader will continue

Posted on April 9, 2012 |
By John Flowers

MIDDLEBURY — A committee searching for a new Addison Central Supervisory Union superintendent has elected not to advance a final candidate for board review. This means the district will either embark on what would be a third search, or continue into next year with an interim administrator.

The search committee, chaired by ACSU board member Peter Conlon of Cornwall, last week interviewed one finalist for the job. The panel then met on Thursday, April 5, and chose not advance the candidate on to an ACSU board interview.

MIDDLEBURY — A screening committee charged with reviewing applications for the vacant Addison Central Supervisory Union superintendency could endorse a finalist within the next few days.

Peter Conlon, Cornwall representative to the ACSU board and leader of the screening committee, confirmed on Monday that his panel had interviewed one of three finalists who had been flagged for the job. Conlon explained that the other two finalists ended up accepting other positions before the committee had a chance to interview them.

Sease further claims he was not given reasons for his termination and alleges he was not given a chance to be heard on the matter. He is urging the court to award him damages, including lost wages and benefits. Sease received a total annual compensation package (salary and benefits) of $127,321, according to court records.

MIDDLEBURY — The Addison Central Supervisory Union (ACSU) is in the market for yet another senior administrator. Associate Superintendent Jan Willey has tendered her resignation in a move she said was fueled by what she described as ongoing “turmoil” in the ACSU central office.

Willey’s departure, effective at the end of this academic year, is one of several administrative positions within the district that will be, or already have been, vacated during the past year under some strained circumstances.

MIDDLEBURY — The search for a new Addison Central Supervisory Union superintendent will kick into high gear this week, as a screening committee this Thursday will identify applicants it deems worthy for interviews in anticipation of recommending two or three finalists to the ACSU board next month.

It’s a process expected to culminate in the ACSU board’s selection of a new superintendent on March 14, after the finalists have toured district schools and met with local students, parents, teachers and administrators.

MIDDLEBURY — Residents in the Addison Central Supervisory Union towns of Bridport, Cornwall, Ripton, Shoreham, Salisbury and Weybridge will soon vote on 2012-2013 elementary school spending plans that in many cases reflect small increases in spending but decreases in education property taxes.

The proposed budgets, according to ACSU interim Superintendent Gail Conley, show a commitment by school directors to keep expenses low.
