Crowds mark Monkton's 250th birthday with food, fun and laughter

MONKTON — The Monkton 250th Founding Celebration on June 24 was a day of fun, food and laughter. Starting the day of celebration was the 5K Race with 70 runners and walkers. Prizes were given for the fastest time of male and female contestants, the winners being Chris Coffey with a time of 18:35 minutes and Lizzie Collins with a time of 21:35 minutes. The race was sponsored by Road ID. Each contestant received a water bottle. Awards were given at the end of the race on the ball field at Morse Park.

Ferrisburgh 250th celebration to feature history, music, fun

FERRISBURGH — In each of the past two years, the town of Ferrisburgh has set aside a day each summer to gather and celebrate as a community, calling the event Ferrisburgh Day.

This year presents Ferrisburgh and its residents with an extra reason to gather, the 250th anniversary of the town charter.  Officials essentially decided to combine Ferrisburgh Day with a birthday celebration on Saturday, June 23.

This year, the town of Middlebury and a number of other towns in the state mark the 250th anniversary of their chartering in 1761.

In Middlebury, this has meant throwing a series of commemorative events, including a birthday bash along with the Middlebury Spooktacular and a charter signing celebration at the Town Hall Theater on November 4.

Panton to build community with 250th party

PANTON — On Saturday, Sept. 10, Panton will join the cluster of Addison County towns commemorating their 250th birthday this calendar year, and townspeople are planning a daylong celebration with myriad activities and attractions for all ages to mark the occasion.

The celebration, which recalls the date in 1761 when colonial Gov. Benning Wentworth issued Panton’s official charter, will begin in earnest at 11 a.m. on the Beillo property south of the Panton Town Hall.

SALISBURY — Salisbury residents will have several opportunities to mark their town’s 250th birthday this summer, through such activities as an essay writing contest, a historical scavenger hunt and a parade.

The festivities kick off this Wednesday when he Salisbury Conservation Commission “An Historical Perspective on Land Use and Wildlife in Salisbury” at the Salisbury Community School at 7 p.m.

Big birthday in store for 10 towns

ADDISON COUNTY — Ten Addison County towns will soon mark an auspicious birthday that will require a lot of candles and the collective breath of many residents to blow out.

The towns of Shoreham, Bridport, Addison, Leicester, Middlebury, New Haven, Cornwall, Panton, Salisbury and Weybridge will this year all commemorate the 250th anniversary of receiving charters from Benning Wentworth, the first royal governor of New Hampshire, in 1761.
