Bomoseen man charged in Shoreham domestic violence incident

SHOREHAM — Vermont State Police cited Jason A. Gagnon, 27, of Bomoseen for domestic assault and other charges on Monday after he allegedly tried to force his way into a Shoreham apartment and then allegedly vandalized a car belonging to one of the female occupants who had tried to defend herself with a pistol.

Shoreham farms to share their stories with bicycle tour

SHOREHAM — Fantastic foods, amazing bicycling and spectacular scenery are in store for all those who participate in the 5th Annual Tour de Farms, which will take place this Sunday in Shoreham.

The Tour de Farms offers three loop rides (approximately 10, 25 and 30 miles) and a family-friendly five-mile walking or biking option. At frequent designated stops, family farmers will treat bicyclists and walkers to tasty samples of local foods such as apple cider, quiche, bread, roasted vegetables, yogurt, wine, maple syrup, and cookies.

Historic Shoreham Inn is placed on the market

MIDDLEBURY — Dominic and Molly Francis have been providing lodging to weary travelers and nourishment to hungry diners at the Shoreham Inn for almost nine years.

Now the couple wouldn’t mind turning the tables and becoming customers of the historic landmark inn that has become just as beloved to locals as it has to tourists, cyclists and sightseers. They are in the process of selling it.

“We are just ready to take on some other opportunities,” Molly Francis said last Thursday morning during a brief break from her kitchen duties.

Day of fun planned for Shoreham Festival

MIDDLEBURY — The annual Shoreham Festival will be a little leaner this year but still a blast when it is staged in the village all day this Saturday, Sept. 1.

 A recent water main project on the town commons and other factors have forced organizers to pare a few past features of the event, such as the garden tractor pull, tag sale and carnival rides. But this year’s Shoreham Festival will still include such mainstays as a chicken barbecue, parade and street dance.

Shoreham orchard owners believe time is ripe to go solar

SHOREHAM — Champlain Orchards depends on the sun to naturally ripen the more than 3 million pounds of fruit, primarily apples, that it produces each year.

Now orchard owners Bill Suhr and Andrea Scott are harnessing the sun to lower the energy costs of harvesting and processing the fruit.

Update: Three-vehicle crash in Shoreham

SHOREHAM — Two adults sustained injuries — one requiring airlift transport to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H. — but an infant was miraculously unhurt in a severe three-car crash on Route 74 in Shoreham on Thursday.
Vermont State Police responded to the crash at around 8:30 a.m. on Route 74 in eastern Shoreham, near Tottingham Road.

$1.3M grant to fund new Shoreham health center

SHOREHAM — Vermont’s Congressional delegation announced on Tuesday that it had secured $1.3 million in federal funds to build a community health center in Shoreham that will offer medical and dental services to area residents regardless of their ability to pay.

Shoreham OKs new town office

SHOREHAM — At Monday evening’s town meeting, Shoreham residents approved all resolutions up for vote with two articles on the warning drawing a large share of the discussion.

After much talk, residents accepted an education spending plan that represented a 3.1 percent increase from the current year and authorized an expenditure of up to $160,000 of new taxpayer dollars for a new town clerk’s office, which will supplemented with money already on hand..

Shoreham office plan up for vote

SHOREHAM — Shoreham residents at their March 5 town meeting will be asked to finally resolve a longstanding debate on how to improve their municipal offices. Specifically, residents will vote on whether to spend $450,000 for a new, larger office building that would be located near the current one on the town common.

Shoreham Winery launches local libations

SHOREHAM — In the burgeoning homegrown Vermont wine market Shoreham Winery is the newest player.

But the business, which acquired its commercial winery license last year and debuted at this fall’s Tour de Farms bike event, has been percolating for seven years now, ever since owner Greg Borah planted his first vines.

“You plant the grapes and then you realize, ‘In three years’ time, I’m going to have a harvest. I’d better know what to do with it,’” Borah said.
