MIDDLEBURY — School directors in Middlebury have decided to delay the introduction of Spanish language teaching at Mary Hogan Elementary School for at least a year. The decision came in the wake of concerns voiced by some teachers about how the program would be implemented and whether those resources would be best spent on other needs.

Middlebury capital project list grows

Posted on January 27, 2011 |
By John Flowers

MIDDLEBURY — While the long-discussed $16 million Cross Street Bridge has now been completed, Middlebury continues to maintain a lengthy list of other capital improvement projects that local officials believe will need to be whittled down sooner, rather than later.

Middlebury Town Manager Bill Finger earlier this month gave the selectboard what he said was an incomplete list of almost 30 potential projects, ranging from the fairly basic and inexpensive (celebration of the 250th anniversary of the town charter this year) to the complex and costly (new town offices).

MIDDLEBURY — For Middlebury College senior Jenny Djupedal, the dying process has always been a bit of a mystery.

“My grandma passed away when  I was still in high school and she was on hospice when she died,” Djupedal said. “That was a really scary experience for me because I had never seen anybody die before.”

Djupedal is one of few young 20-somethings who has experienced death, and hospice, first-hand.

MIDDLEBURY — An ad hoc committee is putting together plans for a major makeover of Middlebury’s fire stations, and local fire officials are scheduled to update residents on those plans at town meeting in March. A bond vote could follow later this year.

“My hope is we would have something to the voters by this summer or fall,” Middlebury Fire Department Chief Rick Cole said on Monday. “We don’t want to rush into anything, but we want to keep things moving.”

The new store offers fresh flowers, floral arrangements and live plants available for delivery within Addison County and beyond, thanks to its affiliation with FTD wire service.
