2019 Krans Women Who Change the World Award nominations open

MIDDLEBURY — WomenSafe is accepting nominations for the 2019 Kimberly Krans Women Who Change the World Award. Each year, a nomination committee selects a local woman whose work or volunteer efforts in Addison County or the Town of Rochester have had positive impacts on the women and/or children in our community.

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Community Players’ production of “The Drowsy Chaperone” will open Nov. 29 and close Dec. 9 at the Town Hall Theater in Middlebury. It’s a terrible title for a wonderful show.

Middlebury Police Log: Hanging deer stolen from yard

MIDDLEBURY — Middlebury police received a report that someone has stolen a dead deer from a Munger Street resident’s yard on Nov. 24.

Police said the deer had been gutted and was hanging so that its blood would drain. The thief took it away from where it had been hanging, according to police.

Anyone with information about this theft is asked to call Middlebury police at 388-3191.

In other action last week, Middlebury police:

•  Helped locate a dementia patient who had walked away from a Lindale Circle home on Nov. 19.

Middlebury officials approve new Habitat for Humanity homes

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Development Review Board (DRB) has given final approval to a Habitat for Humanity of Addison County plan to build two affordable homes on property at 51 Seymour St.

Ashley Cadwell, Habitat’s Building Committee leader, said the first of the two homes should be completed by next summer, with the second ready for occupancy by the spring of 2020. Plans call for a two-bedroom home containing around 900 square feet and a three-bedroom home with about 1,100 square feet.

Blue Spruce Motel owners get new cleanup order

MIDDLEBURY — The Middlebury Development Review Board (DRB) has ordered the owners of the Blue Spruce Motel property to clean up the burnt building remnants from the site at 2428 Route 7 South, thus echoing a directive issued by Town Manager Kathleen Ramsay back in September.

The Wyeth family and their art to be discussed at Ilsley Library

MIDDLEBURY — Shelburne Museum director Thomas Denenberg will discuss the influence of the Wyeth family on American art and culture in a talk at Ilsley Public Library in Middlebury on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7:00 p.m. His talk, “The Wyeths: First Family of American Art,” is part of the Vermont Humanities Council’s First Wednesdays lecture series and is free and open to the public.

'LOOP TRACK' takes the stage

The Middlebury College Department of Theatre and Dance presents their annual Fall Dance Concert on Nov. 30 and Dec. 1 at the Mahaney Center for the Arts. This year’s show, “LOOP TRACK,” is a collection of five student choreographers’ original work, developed with supervising assistant professor of dance Laurel Jenkins. The evening will also include the Newcomers’ Piece, open to students who have not previously participated in a Dance Program performance.

New director aims to amp up music at Town Hall Theater

MIDDLEBURY — At Town Hall Theater’s 10th birthday party this summer, incoming executive director Mark Bradley took the stage, introduced himself and issued an open invitation for coffee and chatting.

“I have had a lot of coffees since then,” said Bradley, who joined THT in August and sees caffeinated confabbing as part and parcel of the job.

So what are people chatting about?

“If a single theme has emerged it has been around moving more into music,” Bradley said.
