FERRISBURGH — The proposed in-town move of Ferrisburgh trucking firm J.A. DeVos and Sons Inc. to Tuppers Crossing drew fire at a Dec. 7 Board of Zoning Adjustment hearing from some area residents, who said it was a poor fit for the neighborhood.

J.A. DeVos and Sons Inc., owned in part by former Ferrisburgh Selectman John DeVos Jr., is planning to move from the north end of town to a 9-acre parcel on Tuppers Crossing, a half-mile road that runs west from Route 7 to Botsford Road about a half-mile north of Vergennes.

FERRISBURGH — If the dream of one Ferrisburgh resident comes true, the town’s office building and community center will by next summer start hosting a series of monthly performances — and before then host two family-friendly artisans’ markets that will help fund that series.

Resident Kate Yarbrough has already met with the Ferrisburgh selectboard about getting its permission to establish the Grange Series and Grange Markets in the town’s Route 7 landmark, and board members gave her an essentially friendly reception on Nov. 15.

By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — The Ferrisburgh selectboard at its Nov. 15 meeting was supportive of a proposed series of concerts and markets to be held in the upper story of the town’s office building and community center.

Resident Katherine Yarbrough approached the board with a suggestion for three “Grange Markets” a year — a spring Artisans’ Market, fall Antique Market and a winter Christmas Market — that would fund an ongoing “Grange Series” of arts events, including music, dances, films, readings, lectures and other performances.

Ferrisburgh to review Plank Road speed issues

Posted on November 23, 2016 |
By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — Members of the Ferrisburgh selectboard last week sat down briefly with Daniel Crossman, a Plank Road resident who first spoke with the board a year ago about what he called an unsafe stretch of that road between South Middlebrook and Pea Ridge roads.

Crossman approached the board in November 2015 after a speeding car struck his wife’s car as she was pulling out of their driveway; fortunately, she only needed stitches.

By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — Craig Heindel, head of the town of Ferrisburgh’s Vermont Green Line Committee, told the Ferrisburgh selectboard last Tuesday that the committee that day had received a new draft of a “Host Town Agreement” from the companies proposing to bury a major power line along town roads between Kingsland Bay and Route 7 and then south to New Haven.

However, Heindel said, the agreement, while containing reams of documents relating to technical aspects of the project, lacked an essential component: It failed to show Ferrisburgh the money.

Ferrisburgh Town Hall to host first presidential voting

Posted on November 3, 2016 |
By Andy Kirkaldy

FERRISBURGH — Ferrisburgh officials have taken steps to prepare for the first-ever Presidential election for which balloting will be held in Ferrisburgh’s eight-year old town office building.

They expect a turnout that could be up to 50 percent higher than any previous election held at the town’s Route 7 offices.

In 2012, 71.3 percent of the town’s registered voters (minus about 320 absentee voters), then around 2,100 strong, cast ballots for president in the Ferrisburgh Central School gymnasium, as had been the case for decades.
